[Uploads from David Lewis-Baker, tagged iraq] It is not intended as a partisan political statement, but rather as a purely humanitarian and reflective one. The images created represent views from behind glass, sometimes dirt, bomb and blood splattered, and through the strange beauty this creates to commemorate those who have died, or suffered loss, in this messy conflict.

[Michael J. Totten] Michael J. Totten: The Taliban and Pashtun Nationalism: The other festivals I have enjoyed back home are the Shia Ashura, and Arbaeen, where Shia Muslims commemorate the death of Imam Hussein 14 centuries ago, by chanting, flagellating and dancing with swords swinging over their heads in processions that re-enact the eternal tragedy of the imam's martyrdom. So if you are impressed by Glastonbury, imagine more than a million people crammed into the alleys of one small town.
[FOX Forum] The Secret Struggle for the Most Important American War Memorial ...: Some day, there will be memorials for the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. But heres a prediction: Given the unpopularity of Iraq, in particular, as well as the elite disdain for President Bush, the same artsy elites who turned the Vietnam Memorial into a rift in the earth will try to do the same thing to the Global War on Terror.
[Making Light] Making Light: Ghosts of the Great War, 2005: Montgomery's "Anne of Green Gables" books, and the one I read the least of all that gentle, sometimes sentimental, but seminally Canadian series I loved so much as a little girl. Anne's young sons all go away to the War, and the most gifted, Rupert Brooke-like boy dies a few days after writing a great poem inspired by a vision of the Pied Piper walking along the trenches.
[Clive Crook] Thompson, Lieberman and day one in St Paul - Clive Crook: He got a round of applause for Bill Clinton--no mean featwith this crowd--when he contrasted Clinton's occasional willingness towork with Republicans with Obama's record. And he got one big laugh:"If John McCain is just another partisan Republican, I am MichaelMoore's favourite Democrat." If I had been just another of the partisanRepublicans packing the hall, I might have been a little insulted bythat, but the audience either failed to make the connection or was in agenerous frame of mind.
[Baristanet] 9/11 Services, Ceremonies And Events (Baristanet): Isn't it sad, Hiding in..., that day after day after day after dreary day Democratic politicians try to make partisan hay out of a national tragedy? And does anyone out there truly, in the very core of his or her heart, feel he or she would be "safer" were the likes of Kerry, Dean, Biden, Gore or Hillary were the nation's chief executive?
[Firedoglake] Firedoglake » Memorial Day Truth: There Is No “War on Terror”: On Memorial Day, as we remember our sons and daughters who have sacrficed their lives in the blistering sands of Iraq, it does their memory due honor to point this out. Noble men and women fallen, their blood cries out for lawful justice.
[Right Wing News] Right Wing News (Conservative News and Views): There are Muslim authors, bloggers and politicians out there talking down terrorism and talking up freedom. It is an enormous mistake to lump all these decent, friendly, people who view themselves as allies of America, in with the Osama Bin Ladens of the world.
[ximblr.com] Obama Wisconsin Victory Speech: Seems to me McCain really boxed himself in with his no new taxes pledge, given our ballooned again deficit and looming social security obligations, and his wanting to stay in Iraq for a long, long time and probably attack Iraq and probably escalate militarily in Afghanistan. If the assumption that the Dems hold Congress is correct, and he means what he says about taxes, that could be quite the train wreck.
[OPINION] OPINION Blog | The Dallas Morning News: What Mr. Limbaugh is trying to say is that real patriots don't need teleprompters any more than George Washington and Francis Scott Key needed sheet music to sing "Stars And Stripes Forever" when they charged up San Juan Hill during the Battle of the Bulge.
[CNN Political Ticker] CNN Political Ticker: All politics, all the time Blog Archive ...: is not real or Honest, he is evading and avoiding most of the questions him, with alot of wording, and he is not getting right to the point, he is at arms length, and he has nerver served in our Military so he would not be a good commander and Cheif, like McCain, Obama remember he was present even while he was in his the building, so he really never took part in the politcal responsiblity, of really voting on the issues, so that should tell you alot, He is always pointing the finger on the president, well he should look at the Clintons, they had this information of 9/11 for the last four years of there stance of the presidency! while the Bush had it only for a couple of months, We are pointing the fingers at the wrong persons, it should be the clintons, but the press and the Democrats have this wrong, and Congress had had this information for many years as well and we still blame the Bush people, We say thank you for one sided infor
[The Swamp] Hillary Clinton keeps calling Obama an empty suit: The Swamp: 3 Obama Inspires Us as Citizens: In The Audacity of Hope, Obama notes that "the vast majority of Americans”Republicans, Democrats and independents”are weary of the dead zone that politics have become." Like Obama, I was born in 1961, and came of age in the post-Vietnam, Watergate era of Nixon and political disillusion. As a late Boomer, I was too young to be moved by JFK's clarion call to "ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country." I survived the Reagan/Bush years, and felt that the Clinton chapter, while offering a step forward, was change lite, never bold enough to offer a new path for domestic renewal, and failing the imagination and courage to transform the Cold War paradigm (rebranded as the Terror War by Bush/Cheney).
[NO QUARTER] Obama's New Bill Ayers Lie : NO QUARTER: “Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) cautioned Republicans Monday against forcing a government shutdown over expanded oil drilling while noting increased support for bipartisan energy legislation… Republicans are mulling whether to press the offshore oil drilling fight by blocking the funding resolution, which contains the congressional moratorium on such drilling.
