Iraq Reviews > War and Death

http://silver-starlight.net/blog [ Gnome] A good friend and former professor of mine, Mano Singham, has reminded me, though. I would quote his post here, but I couldn’t possibly do it justice by taking any part of it out of context, so I will just urge you to read it for yourself.

http://artworkbyaravindhan.blogspot.com  Art: That impression was because my parents would listen only to Thyagaraja Bhagavadhar, Seerkazhi Govindarajan, and other songs of yesteryears. Although I developed a taste for those classics (albeit reluctantly), I could not deny the immense pleasure I derived from the compositions of Isaignani. (via Cosmos)

http://anythingtheysay.blogspot.com  Anything They Say: Despite recent and occasional international calls to close Guantanamo Bay, the Bush administration and congressional Republicans redirect attentions toward what the GOP thinks will be election winners like tough, militarized operations against illegal immigration. The sudden and disingenuous concern with immigration manifest itself recently in the most ridiculous of Senate maneuvers when the judiciary committee voted forth an amendment that would affirm English as the language of this Euro-centric land. http://s88172659.onlinehome.us/spockosbrain.html  Spocko' s Brain: While he doesn't swing out Godwin's law in it (he does in many of his other writings), it seems to me that Rocks of Ages (Stephen Jay Gould, 1999) puts forth the best (for the layman) argument why the "conflict" of science and religion is specious and unnecessary. They are apples and oranges. (via Cosmos)

Volokh.com[Volokh.com] The Volokh Conspiracy - -: I've gotten many more than I can possibly respond to, but I think I have an obligation to respond to some, so let me focus on those coming from Mark Kleiman, Matthew Yglesias, Maimon Schwarzschild, and Clayton Cramer. These are interesting and generally very thoughtful arguments (and I also thank their authors for framing the arguments not just civilly but quite generously, despite their disagreement with my views).

Blog.case.eduhttp://blog.case.edu [Blog.case.edu] Mano Singham's Web Journal: How war brutalizes all of us - 3: The ...: It reminded me of an old Doonesbury cartoon drawn during the Vietnam war where a Vietnamese survivor of a bombing, emerges from the rubble and shakes his fists at the departing planes, yelling "You heartless air pirates! I hope you can live with it!

[Juancole.com] Informed Comment : 08/01/2003 - 08/31/2003: GEOFF THOMPSON: Do you see a certain irony in the fact that America's war on terror, in a sense, made the invasion of Iraq and the ousting of Saddam Hussein possible politically, and now in fact it's attracting, it's attracting people who wish to battle America on that front?

[Americanliar.com] American Liar » Blog Archive » Colbert’s Comedy Roast of the ...: The “post-9/11 mindset” may see heretofore bedrock documents such as the Constitution as now little more than a niggling hindrance to our grand new Crusade, the War on Terror (the war for American Empire)””or “just a goddamned piece of paper” as “the President” is reported to have characterized it.
