Iraq Reviews > The Simpsons - Iraq war Censorship : Iraq News and Information
[Iraq News and Information] It would be overkill to make the comment about Iraq. Think back to some of the jingoism that followed September 11 (the WWF Smackdown on September 13th and JAG for example) for an idea on how the pro war pro bombing terrorist countries into parking lots might be pushed past making a point and beat a dead horse.

[Dartmouth Free Press] Smackdown Politics | Dartmouth Free Press: If that was not enough, WWE had Gunn and Palumbo portrayed as good “straight” guys and the gay storyline was soon forgotten.WWEs next attempt at tacking the political issues of the day came on the April 14, 2003 edition of WWE RAW when Christopher Nowinski, a 2000 Harvard graduate, debated fellow wrestler Scott Steiner on the issue of “Operation Iraqi Freedom.” Nowinskis side of the debate was a well-articulated critique of the Bush administrations foreign policy and war effort while Steiners argument featured such moronic lines as, ”Ive wrestled a lot of countries” and “The Dixie Chicks and all those Hollywood numbnuts can go straight to Hell or France, same difference.” As you can probably tell, WWE took advantage of Nowinskis Ivy League background and cast him into the role of the snobby Ivy League elitist intellectual. Although I commend WWE for raising awareness about the Iraq War, I regret that they make the liberal, more informed position “nerdy,” unrelatable, and stigmatized.
[The Asia Pacific Journal: Recent Articles] Ampo's Troubled 50th - JapanFocus: The Second Report (issued in February 2007 by Nye, Armitage and their associates) on the US-Japan Alliance through 2020, spelled out the agenda for Japan to lift the alliance to its next phase: strengthen the Japanese state, revise the constitution, pass a permanent law to authorize regular overseas despatch of Japanese forces, step up military spending, and explicitly support the principle of use of force in settling international disputes.6 Later that year (in November 2007), Defense Secretary Robert Gates called on Japan to resume its Indian Ocean naval station providing refuelling services for US ships at war in Afghanistan and Iraq (then hotly debated), maintain and increase its payments for hosting US bases, increase its defense budget, and pass a permanent law to authorize overseas dispatch of the SDF whenever the need arose.7
[Swampland] Morning Must Reads: When Handed Avocados, Make Guacamole ...: See, among other examples, the 300,000 people in NYC who marched against the impending Iraq War in February 2003; the recent large immigration reform rallies;
[The American Spectator and AmSpecBlog] The American Spectator : Revolt of the Masses: I never understood this argument that conservatives who supported the Iraq War are "chickenhawks" or "armchair warriors." Nobody voted for Bush to specifically go to war with Iraq. I think suggesting it was a "war for oil" is kind of smearing the soldier's accomplishments, and removing Saddam in Iraq was a good thing (and something most Democrats voted for, including Kerry, Hiillary, and John Edwards).
[The Agitator] That's Some Mighty Authoritarian Tea | The Agitator: As a 20 year supporter of the Libertarian party I’ve never seen the Libertarians be able to motivate this kind of sentiment in even a tiny fraction of the number of people currently active or interested in Tea Party activities. I’m 100% in the Libertarian tent, but to reject this movement because they don’t all support immediate legalization of heroin or want to immediately abolish the income tax is ludicrous.
[Mondoweiss] 'NY Review of Books' goes after the Israel lobby, Jewishly: Who, familar with Beinart’s past positions, would look to him for sage advice re the ins-and -outs of US foreign policy and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is indeed a mystery. But i’m a mature adult and I flatter myself into believing that I’m able to handle reasonable levels of ambiguity and uncertainty.
[Informed Comment] Cpl. Jeffrey Goldberg, Guarding the Prison of the Nationalist Mind ...: but the fact that you obviously haven't read the man since the Iraq war (about which he has admitted he was wrong, as I think any sensible person would have to) and yet still feel entitled to drag him through the mud like this is pathetic, childish, and a useful indicator of everything that is wrong with the far left perspective on Israel.
[Rick Green | CT Confidential] Campaign 911! Somebody Save These Boring 'Debates' - Rick Green's ...: I don't want to sound like a one-trick pony, but if there is ANY issue that even comes close with putting a choke hold on and wrestling State spending to the ground, I am unaware of it. Reviewed Foley's (otherwise quite painstaking and respectable) issues paper yesterday and even this GOP front-runner has only band aid solutions to cutting costs.
[Hot Air » Top Picks] Hot Air » Obama adviser: Keep 80000 troops in Iraq: Obama can’t shrug off the statement as five years old, as he apparently did with Tony McPeak. This analysis comes from contemporaneous review of the situation in Iraq, and it calls into question all of Obama’s assumptions on the issue. Iraq apparently hasn’t been a total failure, as Obama and the Democrats argue. Otherwise, Kahl wouldn’t argue that the force needs to remain to “Stay on Success”.
[Politico Live's Blog] Sestak confirms WH job offer to get out of Senate race - POLITICO ...: Representative Sestak really deserves to be highlighted under profiles in courage, he doesn't have the guts to disclose the position or who made the offer. It's a sorry day in America when out and out political bribery is treated so matter fact by both the American public and most importantly the Attorney General of the United States.

[Walter Russell Mead's Blog] Kicked By The Great White North - Walter Russell Mead's Blog - The ...: Part of the problem may be that the administration’s dislike of Bush administration policies may extend to countries that cooperated with the last administration. That’s a mistake. Many of the countries who supported the United States in Iraq (especially the ones in Central and Eastern Europe) didn’t do it because they loved war, loved neoconservatism or loved Bush. They did it because they believe that good relations with a strong United States are the foundation of their own security. These countries are potentially President Obama’s good friends as well. Many of them don’t care who the president is or what he wants; they will work with Washington and give it what help they can no matter whether we have a Blue State or Red State leader. It’s more important than one might think to treat these countries with consideration and to bring them along when our policy changes. Countries around the world should know that if you stand by the United States we will stand by you, and our new president won’t blame you for working with our last one.
[Libertarian Republican] Libertarian Republican: Lew Rockwell completely loses it.. Calls ...: Forrestal Fire disaster, in which over 100 U.S. Sailors died due to McInsane's reckless, irresponsible decision to employ a so-called "wet start" (in which fuel is allowed to pool in the engine, causing a burst of flame to rush out the tailpipe upon ignition), thus cooking off the Zuni rocket in the plane directly behind his, touching off the bloody conflagration. A guy like that should never have been elected to the Congress back in '82, let alone nominated for the Presidency.
