Iraq Reviews > The Iraq War Five Years Later

Wash Park Prophethttp://washparkprophet.blogspot.com/2008/03/iraq-war-five-years-later.html [Wash Park Prophet] Of course, it has been repeatedly confirmed that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, that there was no link between the Iraqi government or its leaders and terrorist threats to the United States, that the invasion would not be cheap and self-financing, and that we had enough information in hand to know all of those things in 2003 when we started the war. The administration lied to start this war, and failed to engage in even minimal planning to cover post-invasion operations -- a State Department plan to do that sat on a shelf until it was hopelessly out of date, overcome by years of neglect and changing conditions.

Murdoc Onlinehttp://www.murdoconline.net/archives/005535.html [Murdoc Online] Gotcha game about disbanding the old Iraqi Army continues: Another thing that rarely comes up when blaming the disbanding of the old army for the size of the insurgency is this: Would we be finding it easier to reach political unity and national reconciliation in Iraq with a largely Sunni army under the control of a largely Shiite government? Or would we be seeing the Shiite militias openly backed by much of the government and population, much more than we see today, in an effort to resist the brute force of the military?

The faces of the Iraq war five years on: MPs broke with tradition to applaud the 12-minute address after he predicted: "Iraq probably has no weapons of mass destruction in the commonly understood sense of the term - namely a credible device capable of being delivered against a strategic city target." He remained loyal on all issues apart from Iraq and, ironically, played an important role bolstering support for Labour colleagues who had backed the party line on the invasion during the 2005 election.

I hope also however that the fury of the Mehdi Army can somehow be tamed before Iraq arrives at what is generally considered to be the most decisive factor in the future of middle-east politics...

The combined effect of the American offensive and accelerated ethnic expulsions generated an estimated displacement rate of 100,000 per month in Baghdad alone during the first half of 2007, a figure that surprised even Said Hakki, the director of the Iraqi Red Crescent, who had been monitoring the refugee crisis since the beginning of the war.
