Iraq Reviews > The Draft is Coming?

http://code0range.net [code0range.net | Drink your juice.] Observers largely believe that Rangel, knowing beforehand that the bill would never be passed by the House, introduced it only to make a point. Rangel himself argued that the point of his bill was to express his opposition to the war in Iraq. In an editorial in the New York Times, Rangel said “if those calling for war knew that their children were likely to be required to serve””and to be placed in harm’s way””there would be more caution and a greater willingness to work with the international community in dealing with Iraq.” (See 1 and 2)

[Eternityroad.info] Francis W. Porretto - Eternity Road: Just about everyone on the left of the political spectrum has attacked the Bush Administration for its "lack of a plan" for post-Saddam-Hussein Iraq. Behind the statements of the various Democratic Party presidential contenders to this effect, and the comparable statements of many lesser figures—yes, yes, it’s hard to imagine a public figure lesser than the Democratic presidency seekers—is the implication that it’s possible to plan out every twist and turn of the evolution of a free and democratic society.

http://drsanity.blogspot.com [Drsanity.blogspot.com] Dr. Sanity: There already exists a professional code of ethics for journalists, and its states, "Seek Truth and Report It." This seems simple enough, yet one part of the Truth may be that by reporting a story a certain way or under certain conditions set by some groups (i.e., terrorists), then not only are you subverting the Truth, but you are aiding and abetting those who only care to use you to distort that Truth. It is not the fault of journalists that this situation has come to be, just as it was not the fault of the doctors trying to do their best with Borderline patients in a difficult situation.

[Stromata.typepad.com] Stromata Blog: Iraq: Any administration is going to need to show results from the European side; they’re going to need to demonstrate that a policy of according respect to European countries and according respect to international institutions actually delivers something in terms of burden-sharing, and actually deliver something in terms of the problems that the United States sees as security issues. And that really is going to mean demonstrating to the European countries that they’re very serious about getting contributions to the problems, and that they really want to hold, for example, the French to the claim that Ambassador Leaf just made that they recognize that Iraq is a common problem, and that common problems require common contributions. I don’t think that that’s possible, but it does require A) holding them to standards that they themselves proclaim, and B) acknowledging the court of public opinion, and cede authority commensurate with the assets that you get, so that people feel as if they do have a stake and a control over security problems.

Moorewatch.comhttp://moorewatch.com [Moorewatch.com] Battle of the Mikes - MOOREWATCH - Watching Michael Moore's every move: I’ve been faced with quite a dilemma lately.  See, it was a year or so ago that I first heard about Michael Moore Hates America.  Being the foe of Moore that I am, I took a keen interest in the project, and have been promoting it on both my blogs ever since.  Mike Wilson and I have even become friends.  So it was quite an interesting situation the other day when a thought occurred to me:  what if the movie sucks?  What if, after all this time, I go and see the movie and it isn’t any good?  Do I get on the blog and be honest, or do I pay it lip service and quietly avoid mentioning it ever again?
