[blogfrommiddleeast.com] Iraq snapshot - November 18, 2009: And I have to tell you just recently with in the last two weeks, I went to two veterans homeless shelters in New York City to give a motivational speech and some of these guys are really whipped down and they're broken. And you start talking to them and I try to motivate them and I try to tell them, "Look when we help you get a job, you will get back your self-respect and dignity and-and it will put you on the road to getting an even better job." And so we go there, we go right into the shelters, we talk to them, we give them a speech, and around town, we have a card and it says: "Do you need a job?

[The Cedar Lounge Revolution] A Blair supporter writes about British Labour”¦and they wonder why ...: Anyway, the point is that large chunks of the New Labour project were skilfully rebranded Thatcherism, but whereas the original Thatcherites seemed to execute things with a cold sneer, Blairites adopted a shiny, happy and caring approach to marketizing and metriculating everything that moved, on behalf of the middle class. Now that Cameron has stolen their clobber, it looks like they’re starting to bare their teeth as they howl in anguish.

[Just Above Sunset] Saying the Right Thing at the Right Time « Just Above Sunset: The general idea was that if Obama chafed about these soldiers, or any of our soldiers, he’d send twenty divisions into Afghanistan tomorrow, giving McChrystal ten times over what McChrystal requested, and anytime we happened to accidently kill a few hundred civilians, he’d not even mention it, much less apologize to any widows or children and that sort of thing. Thus Moss says Obama “has no right to speak for me or any other soldier serving this country.”

[Hot Air TV] Hot Air » Blog Archive » Video: Dick Cheney rips Obama on the war: In other words, Cheney won’t sit quietly while Obama shifts blame for his own lack of decisiveness onto Bush and Cheney. The notion is risible anyway. Obama campaigned for two years on the promise to fight a more robust counterinsurgency strategy, in large part to dispel the notion that he was an anti-war pacifist. He reaffirmed that decision repeatedly this year, most recently by appointing Ge. Stanley McChrystal, the Army’s leading COIN expert, to command in Afghanistan. Now that McChrystal has requested the resources that comes with COIN, suddenly it’s all Bush’s fault.

[Shiraz Socialist] “Dear Comrade Harman” « Shiraz Socialist: It was not necessary, it was self-disabling, to develop the fantasy that large numbers of Muslims, as they are, without changing except in being roused as Muslims by opposition to the war in Iraq, could be won - to what? - by solidarising with them on their own political terrain and mimicking their politics and their “Islamism”.
[Antiwar.com Blog] Guarding the Surge Narrative While Iraq Burns « Antiwar.com Blog: The FBI's counterterrorism unit has launched a broad investigation of US-based theft rings after discovering that some of the vehicles used in deadly car bombings in Iraq, including attacks that killed US troops and Iraqi civilians, were probably stolen in the United States, according to senior government officials.
[Centurean2's Weblog] “Islam Not Responsible” For Fort Hood Massacre: US Imam”¦.Well Ah ...: The word on the so-called Arab street is that Major Nidal Malik Hasan should be admired because he stood up for fellow Muslims overseas, against U.S. “aggression,” and that his anger, disappointment, and presumed sense of betrayal over U.S. President Barack Obamas failure to end the Afghan and Iraq conflicts is understandable, especially in light of Obamas own Muslim heritage.
[Jihad Watch] Seized Letter Outlines Al Qaeda Goals in Iraq - Jihad Watch: They have too narrowly focused on one geographical area, too narrowly focused on one instrument of Jihad - “terrorism” as in that idiotic and therefore infuriating phrase “the war on terror” and have focused only on ways to make lives of Muslims in Iraq so much saner and better and healthier in every respect that magically, we are led to believe, other Muslims in all those Sunni Arab-dominated countries will be delighted to observe the manner in which Shia Arabs can take over and dominate Sunni Arabs in this Iraq the Model, and what with Iraq becoming a veritable Light Unto the Muslim Nations, everyone will calm down, and no one will read the Qur'an or Hadith or find inspiration in the life of Muhammad again, and the 1300 years of hostility betwee Sunni and Shi'a, or the hatred inculcated in Muslims toward all Believers, will simply evanesce as New England Town Meetings spread from the Land of the Two Rivers all the way to the Sherifian monarch's domain in distant Morocco. And and if the Shia Arab-dominated state in Iraq can somehow be offered as an attractive model for the Sunni Arabs (instead of a state those Sunni Arabs wish every curse upon), cant Iraq's now-ruling Shi'a also be a model for trouble-making and murderous Muslims everywhere - say, in the southern areas of Thailand, and the Philippines, or in the Sudan, or Nigeria, or for that matter in Bradford, England or Barbes-Rochechouart among those sinister and dangerous (to French people - but hell, what rights do they have to Paris anyway?) quartiers chauds now everywhere in France?
