[Jazz Bulletin Board] "Accusations that Saddam had tried to purchase more yellowcake from the African nation of Niger -- and an article by a former U.S. ambassador refuting the claims -- led to a wide-ranging probe into Washington leaks that reached high into the Bush administration."

[Tribe.net: Intelligent Political Discussion] Re: anyone like nader?: In their eye-opening new exposé, Weapons of Mass Deception: The Uses of Propaganda in Bush's War on Iraq, Rampton and Stauber take no prisoners as they reveal - headline by headline, news show by news show, press conference by press conference - the deliberate, aggressive, and highly successful public relations campaign that sold the Iraqi war to the American public. April 9th seemed to confirm what Washington and pro-war pundits had been saying for months: that the Iraqi people would eventually come to see America as their liberator, not their enemy.
[The Reality Check] President Bush exonerated of “misleading statements” leading to ...: We know this because it has been revealed, albeit without the fanfare of the earlier “scandal”, that this huge stockpile of concentrated uranium, a remnant of Hussein nuclear program, was removed from Iraq and shipped to a buyer in Canada. It should be a great relief to the world to know that Hussein was not given enough time to further develop his nuclear program because President Bush defied his critics and took action to abort this threat.
[The Long Goodbye] Saddams WMD found, well not really: If the Right is going to have these regular attacks of WMD Derangement Syndrome its fine with me, just another opportunity to show how deceitful and silly they are when it comes to making excuses for lies that have caused the deaths of the troops and Iraqi people they say they case so much about. A fringe right-wing site called protein wisdom, July 6, 2008, Chimpy McHitlerburtons smirky rodeo ride through history, 25: the last slice of Saddam cake eaten by secret greedy killbots
[Crooks and Liars] Wolf Blitzer looks back at 10 years of Iraq War Bush lies: In the final analysis Blitzer fails to make sense of the bizarre and contradictory aspects of Pollard’s life, diluting to blandness whatever superficial comments he does offer about the spy. While it’s true that Blitzer quotes a number of Jewish establishment figures about the extent to which Pollard’s kind of Zionism is an aberration among Jews, Blitzer himself neatly sidesteps the issue”once again declining to express a clear view.
[Oklahoma Shooters] AP reports Saddam had nuclear weapons program,: "Accusations that Saddam had tried to purchase more yellowcake from the African nation of Niger -- and an article by a former U.S. ambassador refuting the claims -- led to a wide-ranging probe into Washington leaks that reached high into the Bush administration."
[This Modern Age] Iraq War - Remembering the Causes: Part I: Here is what the free world knows about Iraq’s weapons. In 1981, under the cover of night, Israeli forces destroyed a nuclear facility in Iraq. At the time Israel was the scourge of the world. In hindsight we know how valuable that attack was. Ask this question, “Given that Saddam was trying to build nukes in 1981, do you think he simply gave up and never recommitted himself to that goal because a bunch of Jews interfered with his plans?” Next, we discovered all kinds of WMDs in Iraq after Desert Storm. Under the surrender treaty Saddam was to openly and completely dispose of all of his banned weapons. There is no record to be found that he destroyed these weapons. This is why we sent in the UNSCOM inspectors in the first place. Where are all the weapons we knew he had few years prior? Further, as recently as 1998 he launched biological and chemical weapons against Kurds in the North. Saddam and his buddy Ali, fondly known as Chemical Ali, went so far as to video the effectiveness of their weapons after their attack on the Kurds. Sometime in between then and now Saddam must have gotten rid of his weapons to avoid being in material breach of his surrender resolution and numerous following resolutions. But he also had to get rid of the weapons openly. Obviously that never happened. David Kay offered the most likely solution to this problem to the London Daily Telegraph. Kay believes that Iraq moved some weapons to Syria before the war began. He sited interrogations of former Iraqi officials. Kay’s story fits with reports during the war that convoys of trucks were moving along the highway connecting Baghdad to Baathist controlled Damascus, Syria. Jed Babbin reports that some of our Special Forces heaviest fighting occurred on this highway around Al Qaim, on the border into Syria.
[Tribe.net: Intelligent Political Discussion] Re: anyone like nader?: Furthermore, the plebiscitary presidency is dependent upon the creation of “spectacles” that encourage awestruck citizens to become passive spectators rather than active participants in politics.15 Spectacles lend themselves to the portrayal of presidents as energetic, dynamic, hyper-masculine individuals who defeat evil in the name of American democracy, exemplified most recently by George W. Bushs landing on the USS Abraham Lincoln.
[GOPachy - All Discussions] Saddam's Nukes: This is clear, since Saddam acquired most of his uranium before 1991, but still had it in 2003, when invading U.S. troops found the stuff. (The International Atomic Energy Agency seems to have known about the yellowcake in the 1990s, but did nothing to force Saddam to get rid of it.
[Optimistic Jeremiads] Yellowcake and Journalistic Malpractice: Officials told The New York Times that while the material could not be used in its current form for a nuclear weapon or dirty bomb, the unstable environment in Iraq, along with the health dangers that can be caused from it sitting around in concentrated forms, encouraged officials to make sure it was put in secure hands.
[IRIS Blog] 606 Tons of Saddam's Uranium Yellowcake Spirited to Canada: Wilson became known to the general public as a result of his controversial op-ed "What I Didn't Find in Africa", published in the New York Times four months after the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Wilson's op-ed documented his 2002 Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) investigation into whether Iraq had purchased or attempted to purchase uranium yellowcake from Niger.
[BlogJunkies] CNN revisits the Bush?s administration?s Iraq war deception.: CNN’s Late Edition celebrated its 10th anniversary today by re-airing some of Wolf Blitzer’s key interviews with Bush administration officials about the Iraq war. Some highlights:
[Myopenforum] President Bush exonerated of 'misleading statements' leading to ...: "The Iraqi government decided to get rid of the uranium, which amounted to 550 tonnes, because of its potentially harmful affects on Iraq and the region and because it causes pollution," Dabbagh said on Iraqiya state television late on Sunday.

[Dans Blog] Final Uranium removed from Saddam's Nuclear program and leaves Iraq: The removal of 550 metric tons of "yellowcake" the seed material for higher-grade nuclear enrichment was a significant step toward closing the books on Saddam's nuclear legacy. It also brought relief to U.S. and Iraqi authorities who had worried the cache would reach insurgents or smugglers crossing to Iran to aid its nuclear ambitions.
[SWJ Blog] 7 July SWJ News, Op-Ed, and Events Roundup: But with record US casualties in Afghanistan in June, a resurgent Taliban, and new reports of Al Qaeda regrouping in northwest Pakistan, Senator McCain is likely to face new questions about his judgment on the one issue - national security - where voters consistently give him higher marks than they do his Democratic rival. McCain has resisted calls for more troops in Afghanistan and has rejected criticism that the Iraq war is detracting from efforts to secure Afghanistan.
[Mondoweiss] Dialoguin' With Richard Witty: My excuse is I'm unpaid, and I have to make a living at the computer anyway, all day long, so it's hard enough just to write new content for this blog let alone also keep up on comments. It's not a good excuse, and I feel ashamed when I read the comments because many of them are smarter than the content, but readers know they can get my attention by emailing me.
[Political Forum] Just How Stupid Are We? About Iraq?: I do not wish to engage in a debate about the Iraq War. But the thought of planting a largely Christian army in the middle of the Muslim Middle East over the opposition of most countries in the region, when put as I have just put it, sounds daft.
