Iraq Reviews > Rhetoric vs. Reality in London
[Center for Media and Democracy - Publishers of PR Watch] Following the attacks, Galloway issued a statement in which he expressed condolences to the victims before pointing out that he had predicted previously "that the attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq would increase the threat of terrorist attack in Britain." Galloway called on his own government "to remove people in this country from harms way, as the Spanish government acted to remove its people from harm, by ending the occupation of Iraq and by turning its full attention to the development of a real solution to the wider conflicts in the Middle East."

Freedom Rider: "It was Miller, more than any other reporter, who helped the White House sell its WMD-in-Iraq hokum to the American public. Relying on the repeatedly discredited Ahmad Chalabi and her carefully cultivated administration contacts, Miller wrote story after story on the supposedly imminent threat posed by Saddam Hussein." The Right Coast: Just like WWII was the price we paid for electing not to live in the unbelievably creepy fantasy world of a metastisizing German death cult. Or the Cold War was the price of going elsewhere than according to the bizarre maunderings of a deeply confused late Victorian economist, as interpreted by various Russian sociopaths. (via Cosmos)
amor mundi: It is absurd to connect dots from a socialist's support for the Soviet Union to an attribution to him of terrorist sympathies. Please let's not proceed from here to spitting out spools of talking points from sympathizers and detractors to pretend we know more about Galloway than either of us actually do. (via Cosmos)
[Conservative Eyes] The Politics of Exploitation: We urge the government to remove people in this country from harms way, as the Spanish government acted to remove its people from harm, by ending the occupation of Iraq and by turning its full attention to the development of a real solution to the wider conflicts in the Middle East.
[lgf: a preserving blog] Galloway's Creepy Statement: British MP George Galloway wastes no time advocating that Britain respond to the atrocities by acting like the Spanish and bailing out of Iraq. But even more perniciously, Galloway suggests...: Statement on the London bombings by George Galloway on behalf of Respect.
[ Informed Comment] Iraq Comes to London In Iraq, Car Bombs and Atta...: ' He argued that the bombings had not come out of the "clear blue sky" - the background was the invasion of Afghanistan, Iraq, photographs of abuses by US troops at Abu Ghraib prison and the continuing confinement of people by America at Guantanamo. Mr Galloway said the West was in danger of making the same mistakes over and over again, continuing with "war and occupation as the principal instrument of our foreign and defence policy".
[Powerlineblog.com] Power Line: It is also important to remember what would likely happen in Iraq if not for the tireless efforts of the troops who are taking the offensive to those who use terror against innocents and would impose a Taliban-style Islamic theocracy upon the Iraqi people and make Iraq an even stronger base for exporting terror than it was under Saddam. That outcome is something that cannot be tolerated, neither in terms of human freedom nor U.S. national security, so we must continue our efforts to stop them--and stop them we will with a policy that leads with diplomacy and follows with strength.
[Littlegreenfootballs.com] lgf: the reality around us is problematic: But even more perniciously, Galloway suggests to the terrorists that next time they should .The loss of innocent lives, whether in this country or Iraq, .
[Lt-smash.us] The Indepundit: No, with the exception of a few thousand jihadis who are all-too-willing to blow themselves (and any men, women, and children in the vicinity) up, the Iraqi Sunnis are pretty much on their own. Ironically, the only thing standing between them and their eager-for-revenge Kurdish and Shiite countrymen is the U.S. military.
[Ussneverdock.blogspot.com] USS Neverdock: I am familiar with the arguments that run, respectively "the Iraq War was launched by Bush to avenge his daddy", "the Iraq War was launched by Bush for oil" and (my own assessment) "the Iraq War was launched by Saddam with his annexation of Kuwait in 1990, who then failed to adhere to the ceasefire requirements embodied in UN Security Council Resolutions 678 and 687, and therefore was liable to the rightful and necessary exercise of force by the US-led Coalition". But I cannot recall ever having heard before the argument "the Iraq War was launched by the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority in order to redeploy a fire appliance to Enfield".
