[Latest News | The Huffington Post] A new Harris Interactive poll shows American sentiment about the situation in Iraq remains generally gloomy, with fewer than a quarter of Americans saying they are confident U.S. policies in Iraq will be successful.

[Odograph.com] Majority of Iraqis Support Attacks: I don’t want to read too much into this, but I think some Americans might need to turn their heads around, and picture the move “American Dawn” with the Iraqi soccer team.
[Various Miseries] REQUIRED READING: Packer calls Iraq "the 'Rashomon' of wars." Abstract (and highly debatable) neocon notions of marching to Baghdad to make the Middle East safe for democracy (and more secure for Israel and uninterrupted oil production) would never fly with American voters as a trigger for war or convince them that such a war was relevant to the fight against those who attacked us on 9/11. And though Americans knew Saddam was a despot and mass murderer, that in itself was also insufficient to ignite a popular groundswell for regime change.
[Backseat driving] Do the Iraqis really want us out?: The moral case for our troops invading, staying, or leaving Iraq depends in large part on what the Iraqi people want to have happen. I wouldn't say it depends exclusively on that wish, because there is the issue of protecting individual and minority rights against the tyranny of the majority, but it's the determining factor absent some overwhelming reason to act otherwise.
[My Amusement Park] The Liberal Blogosphere Writhes In Pain (and Pleasure): To provide counterpoint to this little bubble of furor (the poll only had 808 respondents-hardly a useful sample, I should think), I have to wonder: to what percentage of Americans does it actually make a noticeable difference whether the theory of evolution is correct or incorrect? The more and more I see of any side of the issue, the more I think that “evolution” is really something of a “cool code” for the inner circles of the modern scientific academy and its hangers-on, the Intelligentsia-at-large.
[interbreeding] The News from Iraq: For the other side of the story, I go to Iraq Coalition Casualty Count. We don't know about today's attacks yet because ICCC only tells us what they glean from the media - but all the media, specifically including U.S. government figures, and including the letter of their figures, not the misleading gist.
[Inside Larry's Head] Haloscan is down so here is a post reply: But If things get better in Iraq the Democrats de facto Anti-War pose prior to 08 will make them the weaker party. She supported the war so she has to rope in the doves, she needs to look strong on war to be viable to most Americans so she cant be anti-war.
[Reality Based Nation - Progressive Journal for Political News, Analysis, and Commentary] Paul Hackett is in.: "Im a democrat and proud of it...we are the party that wants to keep government out of the private lives of Americans and focus the governments energy and power on creating a strong economy and a balanced budget...I dont need Washington and its career politicians to tell me how to worship my God or to dictate to my wife the decisions she makes with her doctor anymore that I need Washington to tell my neighbors what they can do in the privacy of their own home or how many and what types of guns I can keep in my gun safe."
[The Heretik] ONE, TWO, THREE . . .: IF ANOTHER IRAQI ELECTION were held and voters there overwhelmingly voted the United States out, would the Bush administration honor the will of the Iraqi people? A survey published by the Britains Sunday Telegraph holds some stark numbers for those who claim the United States helps rather than harms the Iraqi people by continuing in the “The Mission” there.

It just simply is not going to happen.
