Iraq Reviews > Memo to the GOP: The Iraq War is NOT to be used a Political Point!
[Political Byline] If John McCain uses this misguided war in Iraq, the one that was started using bad intelligence, the one that has taken the lives of 4000+ young people, all so George W. Bush could achieve his rather warped goal, as some sort of cheap political stunt or point, it will be the death knell of his Presidential Campaign.

[Media Matters for America] AP reported McCain's offer to "educate" Obama on Iraq trip without ...: The Iraq war, which polls have shown that most of the country opposes, is shaping up to be a defining issue in the November presidential election. McCain, who wrapped up the GOP nomination in March, supports continued military presence .
[The Conscientious Objector] McCain's New Anti-Obama Line Borrowed From Attack Ad: "On the day after the former WhiteHouse press secretary conceded that the Bush administration used deception and propaganda to take us to war, it seems odd that Senator McCain, who bought the flawed rationale for war so readily, would be lecturing others on their depth of understanding about Iraq," said Obama press secretary Bill Burton in a statement. "Senator Obama challenged the President's rationale for the war from the start, warning that it would divert resources from Afghanistan and the pursuit of Al Qaeda and mire us in an endless civil war.
[FOX Embeds] McCain: Obama displays ignorance on Iraq: “I’ve been back to Iraq on many occasions…because I think it’s important that if you’re involved in a major decision making, the most vital decision that any President of the United States can make or frankly any elected official has got to be about the security of this nation, and the lives of young Americans who are serving,” McCain said, adding that if Obama visited Iraq he could meet General Petraues and see Iraqi security and political progress.
[Spin Cycle] Barack and John's Excellent Adventure: July in Iraq?: "My friends, this is about leadership and learning.”¦ Now, why is it that Senator Obama wants to sit down with the President of Iran, but hasn't yet sat down with General Petraeus - the leader of our troops in Iraq?" The Republican National Committee, helpfully, starts an online clock counting how long it's been since Obama visited Iraq in 2006, and the GOP sends around comments from a half-dozen right-blogs saying yes, yes Obama is horrible for not visiting Iraq.
[The Liberty Lounge Political Forums] Obama considering visit to Iraq this summer: AP - Barack Obama is considering a visit to Iraq this summer, his first since becoming a presidential candidate. The Democrat, who has been criticized by Republican rival John McCain for not visiting Iraq since 2006, revealed his plans to The New York Times.
[mydd] Iraq: It was Never the Right Choice (and We Told You So): (Perhaps we will even discover that the weapons being used against us were made available to terrorists after we attacked Iraq.) We are being promised a safer America after this war, but it will not feel safer. And even if Americans are currently saying that they do not believe that getting rid of Saddam will end terrorism, in their heart of hearts they are expecting that the effort will lead to a big pay off in terms of safety.
[Soy Chicano Forums] McCains Undertow: McClellan charges (among other things) that the war in Iraq was sold to Americans through a political propaganda campaign that was all about manipulating sources of public opinion, according to a copy of the book previewed by the Washington Post. Most strikingly, McClellan concludes about the war: What I do know is that war should only be waged when necessary, and the Iraq war was not necessary.
[Grouchy's Liberaltopia] The Tattlesnake - Charles Foster McCain Edition: and he may have once been a damaged hero of a national military mistake nearly as profound as the current debacle in Iraq but, today, John McCain, to put it as politely as I can muster, is a craven candyass who has given up any shred of integrity he had to espouse views that he once criticized, and embraces a deceitful president who viciously disparaged him to win the 2000 nomination and a war that is breaking both the bank and our military, all to fulfill an ambition that has morphed into a psychosis.
[GOP Bloggers] Sen. McCain Hit His Highness Hard: Again raising the issue of Obama's willingness to meet with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, McCain also said of the Illinois senator, "He wants to sit down with the president of Iran but hasn't yet sat down with Gen. Petraeus, the leader of our troops in Iraq?"I'd think that a minimal requirement for being commander-in-chief is learning firsthand what our guys are doing, especially in war zones.
[Articles Blog] Former spokesman bashes Bush in new book: Reporters in Los Angeles with John McCain, the Republicans’ candidate for president, asked if he believed that Bush used propaganda or deception regarding the war in Iraq.
[FullosseousFlap's Dental Blog] John McCain Attacks Obama Over Iraq War: “Look at what happened in the last two years since Senator Obama visited and declared the war lost,” the GOP nominee-in-waiting told The Associated Press in an interview, noting that the Illinois senator’s last trip to Iraq came before the military buildup that is credited with curbing violence.
[mothanskin.blog-city.com] "GI Benefits Versus All Volunteer Military Retention": On the surface of things, GOP Presidential candidate John McCain, at odds with Democrat contender Barack Obama, seems heartless for not endorsing Senator Jim Webb's legislation that will give generous college education benefits to Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans. John McCain calls the Obama endorsement of this legislation, "political expediency".
[Tizona's Weblog] This could be a fun trip: McCain, who wrapped up the GOP nomination in March, supports continued military presence in Iraq though he recently said he envisions victory with most U.S. troops coming home by January 2013 if he’s elected. Obama, who has all but clinched the Democratic nomination, says he will remove U.S. combat troops within 16 months of taking office, though sometimes he shortens it to 11 months.
[Cafe Talk] Why All Democrats Should Unite Now !!!: President Bush: McCain Is "Not Going To Change When It Comes To Taking On The Enemy." After endorsing John McCain's candidacy for president, President Bush said, "The good news about our candidate is he'll be a new president, a man of character and courage, but he's not going to change when it comes to taking on the enemy. He understands this is a dangerous world.
[Untitled] Why the Obama and McCain gaffes matter: McCain is no better. He claimed that Shiite Iran was training Sunni Al Qaeda in Iraq, which was at war with Shiites in Iraq.
[The Swamp] Obama's last Iraq visit clocked by GOP: Everytime there is a Swamp article criticizing your god and idol - The Obama, all I hear is "aw they're not hitting him on issues, this is off limits, that is racist." Now I realize that since the media has carried your empty suit this far you cannot take when people bring up his lack of character, his lack of a record, his constant political gaffes. So I would like to ask the libs what are people allowed to criticize or question this guy on?
[Blog For Arizona] Dem-a-gogue: After nearly eight years of the politics of fear engaged in by President Bush and Karl Rove (who is also an adviser to McCain), McCain proposes to continue Bush's politics of fear and to raise the ante with his own brand of McCainism, i.e., accusing his political opponents, and anyone else who would disagree with him, of wanting to surrender to the enemy and of treason.
