Today in Iraqhttp://dailywarnews.blogspot.com [Today in Iraq] War News for Thursday, June 9, 2005 Bring 'em on:...: "A militant Shiite Muslim group with close ties to Iran has gained enormous power since Iraq's January elections and now is accused of conducting a terror campaign against Iraq's Sunni Muslim minority that includes kidnappings, threats and murders. But in spite of concern among Sunni Arabs that the Badr Brigade is behind a series of brutal attacks against Sunni clerics, including cases where victims appear to have been tortured with electric drills, the group was praised by top Iraqi government officials on Wednesday. 'Today, there is a sacred mission of sweeping away the remnants of the dictatorship and defeating the terrorism, and your role with your brothers in the (Kurdish militia) is required and necessary to fulfill this sacred mission,' Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, a Sunni Kurd, told a meeting of Badr members.

[Blind Mind’s Eye] Private contractors in Iraq: According to another source, they fired three warning shots into the ground and continued on. Anyone else see how damn stupid you’d have to be to not pull over to the side of the road slowly and indentify yourself to the marines? Especially after that Italian government agent was killed by friendly fire, you’d think that the private contractors would want to make sure that the military knew exactly who they were and where they were going so as to not risk becoming the next victims of friendly fire.

Blackfive.net[Blackfive.net] BLACKFIVE: The Heart of America: As the vehicles went around her, I soon saw her sitting there and in her arms she was clutching a little bear that we had handed her a few patrols back.  Feeling an immediate connection to the girl, I radioed that we were going to stop.  The rest of the convoy paused and I got out the make sure she was OK.  The little girl looked scared and concerned, but there was a warmth in her eyes toward me. As I knelt down to talk to her, she moved over and pointed to a mine in the road.

Antiwar.comhttp://antiwar.com [Antiwar.com] Antiwar.com Blog: I dont think so. With the Larry Franklin spy scandal now breaking into the headlines, in which a spy nest in the Pentagon and within the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) has been caught stealing U.S. secrets on behalf of Israel, the question of how the Israelis are using this technology in the U.S. becomes pertinent. The extent of Israeli "Trojan horse" spy tactics is perhaps even bigger than anyone now imagines, if we take this report by Carl Cameron of Fox News from 2001 into account.

[Hoax-slayer.com] Little Iraq Girl saves Marines Email: Sure, she was a little Iraqi girl and she had no knowledge of purple mountain's majesty or fruited plains. It was a heart of acceptance, of tolerance, of peace and grace, even through the inconveniences of conflict that saved that convoy from hitting that mine. Those attributes are what keep Americans hearts beating.

[Marines.inknoise.com] 2/2 News Blog: Outside Baghdad, lawlessness haunts a small Iraqi town: The task to secure Latifiyah had belonged to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, which went after insurgents with large offensives and tactical cordon-and-search missions. Earlier this month that responsibility was handed to the 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines, a unit with headquarters in Chicago comprising mainly reservists from Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa (slogan: “Mayhem from the Heartland”).
