Throngs of Shia men, young and old, marched and chanted prayers through the main avenues of Kadhimiya, flagellating themselves with chains to the rhythmic thumping of a big bass drum.

[The Note] Cheney: Biden 'Dead Wrong' on Iraq - The Note: Republicans refuse to accept any culpability for all that was deceitfully manipulative of American public opinion to go to war and instead provide in your face arrogance that ours was a just cause that the Iraqis are compelled to be grateful for. The US did not represent any shining example of American justice on behalf of the Iraqi people in its decision to invade and the world knows this.

[Dandelion Salad] Afghanistan: Charlie Wilson And America's 30-Year War by Rick ...: Hekmatyar’s and Haqqani’s roles as ringleaders of the internecine bloodshed and violent anarchy that followed the defeat of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan are worth recalling in reference to repeated comments by Charlie Wilson and lately by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that the only mistake the U.S. has made in Afghanistan over the past 30 years is - a rough paraphrase - “not staying to finish the job.” It is that lapse and no other action that Washington is now “redressing.” The follow up that Wilson envisioned was continuing to arm and fund the likes of Hekmatyar and Haqqani, after 1992 leaders of the ruling regime in Afghanistan.

[The Hill] Ricks calls public-military disconnect the major problem in the ...: Ricks offered a gloomy outlook on future events in Iraq, predicting that the war’s defining events have yet to take place. On the subject of violence he offered his opinion that it was not so much a question of whether violence would break out in post-America Iraq, but how much violence.  He believes many troops will remain in Iraq for at least 15 years.

[The Policy Page] The Cheney Doctrine - martial law for war on terrorism - Rick ...: The President can declare martial law when circumstances warrant it: When the civil authority cannot operate, then martial law is not only constitutional, but would be necessary: “If, in foreign invasion or civil war, the courts are actually closed, and it is impossible to administer criminal justice according to law, then, on the theatre of active military operations, where war really prevails, there is a necessity to furnish a substitute for the civil authority, thus overthrown, to preserve the safety of the army and society; and as no power is left but the military, it is allowed to govern by martial rule until the laws can have their free course.

[AMERICAblog News] AMERICAblog News: Second-ranking Taliban leader captured: The GOPers who have been bitching about the Christmas Day bombing suspect never challenged Bush to find the people who attacked the U.S. on September 11th. If Bush had followed through in the war against Al Qaeda (instead of getting distracted by the war in Iraq and furthering inciting anti-American feelings), one wonders if there even could have been an attempted bombing on Christmas Day.

[TEXAS DEATH PENALTY] TEXAS DEATH PENALTY Blog | The Dallas Morning News: So the unpatriotic ones are not us who want this all exposed and history taught and news reported but Governor Perry and Kay Baily Hutchinson who have aided and abetted the cover up for almost a decade now !Had ICTS International been investigated and their stock frauds against Americans reported not only would they not have been 'guarding' Amsterdam airport on Christmas but perhaps all those soldiers who died on the war fraud of 'WMDS' in Iraq and all those Iraqis who died with them would not have happened. And the U.S. would not have spent itself to bankruptcy to enrich war criminals and stock fraudsters who are really one and the same.
