[1read's Weblog] THE WORLD today!: John McCain, presumtive Republican nominee, calls for a mandatory limit on greenhouse gas emissions in the United States and Obama, the Democratic candidate, is also strongly supporting plans for a clean energy future, increasing investments in renewable fuels, and considers climate change as one of the greatest moral challenges of our generation! The Kyoto protocol, ratified by over 166 countries, but not by the Bush Administration, entered into force in February 2005 and is due to end in 2012, and the US, mayor developing countries and big polluters like Brazil, China and India become fully engaged in signing up to a post-2012 agreement, centred on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change/UNFCCC, which is scheduled to finish in late 2009, having G8 leaders agreed to consider and adopt the goal of achieving at least 50% reduction of global emission by 2050, but not yet assuming any short term commitments. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown listed climate change to the greatest threats to Britain’s peace, as are war, terrorism, disease and poverty. Lights were switched off across Australia last night at 8pm for Earth Hour, drawing mixed results and reviews.

[Big Lizards] An Army of Apathetics: Registration Legislation and Nonvoters: now the Democrats are seen as a "culture of corruption" and as wild spenders, ineffectual and inept, aristocratic, unconcerned, and aloof. [rightvoice.org] Change You Cant Believe In: From the War in Iraq and Troop Funding, to the Embargo with Cuba to Public Financing for his Campaign to his now recent talk surrounding the issue of Offshore Drilling there is no doubt that the Senator is pretty much willing to say whatever it takes in order to win, figuring he has more than enough time between elections to do what he figures he needs to do to and then try to win back the support by re-crafting his message around this blatantly contradictory word and deed.

[Hillary Democrats United] ELECTABILITY WATCH (EW): Many people I know have relied on SCHIP, the excellent plan for children passed by the Democrats in Congress, often foregoing insurance for ourselves (we are small business owners and freelancers). With a strong President backing a universal plan, we have a good chance of creating and passing a universal plan that works. This in turn would help our economy immensely - freeing up family and small business resources, and even assisting big corporations which cannot compete overseas due to high health insurance costs. This would gain the loyalty of the American public to the Democratic Party for years to come. Senator Clinton supports and will fight for a truly universal healthcare plan (and yes, there are some things important enough to fight for!)
