[Raw Story] 18 veterans kill themselves every day: report | Raw Story: Mark Weber: Whatever the secondary reasons for the war, the crucial factor in the decision to attack Iraq was to help Israel. With support from Israel and Americaâ€â™s Jewish-Zionist lobby, and prodded by high-level Jewish “neo-conservatives” in the Bush administration, President Bush and Vice President Cheney –

[Marijuana.com - The Drug War Headline News] CA: Marijuana, Boom and Bust - Marijuana.com: On March 25, 2010, California officials announced that 523,531 signatures – almost 100,000 more than required – had been validated in support of a state initiative to legalize marijuana and allow it to be sold and taxed, no small fiscal allurement in budget-stricken California. (Many growers, zealous not to get on the wrong side of the IRS and the state tax board, declare “agricultural” revenues in some form dependant on the creativity of their accountant or lawyer.

[BAGnewsNotes] But He Really Hasn't Done Anything Yet ”” Right? ”” BagNews: He didn’t promise to do anything different from what Bush and Cheney were already doing. There’s a tipping point when the number of people with no investment at all in political stability exceeds the number of people who like things just as they are.

[Simple Thoughts - Java and Web Blog] Arlington's Section 60 for Iraq, Afghan war dead becomes a ...: Unlike the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, where the National Park Service collects and stores such objects daily, Arlington is a working military cemetery with strict rules to keep it pristine. Because there were no collection procedures in place, most of the items left at grave sites simply ended up in the trash.

[911Blogger.com] Iraq War Vet: "We Were Told to Just Shoot People, and the Officers ...: "I remember one woman walking by," said Jason Washburn, a corporal in the US Marines who served three tours in Iraq. He told the audience at the Winter Soldier hearings that took place March 13-16, 2008, in Silver Spring, Maryland, "She was carrying a huge bag, and she looked like she was heading toward us, so we lit her up with the Mark 19, which is an automatic grenade launcher, and when the dust settled, we realized that the bag was full of groceries.

[TROOP SCOOP] TROOP SCOOP: Daily Afghan-Iraq Update/4-19: A veteran of the Vietnam War, Halevy also is a distinguished helicopter pilot, both militarily and commercially, flying more than 6,270 accident-free hours.  Still, despite his vast experience and notable success as an aviator, Halevy's focus has centered on safety. "I did it.

[BAGnewsNotes] Beyond the Rah-Rah (For a Change) ”” BagNews: We know now that Iraq was justified with lies, and it did nothing to make us safer, and much to increase hostility towards the US, making us less safe. And we know that Afghanistan was badly mismanaged, because of the distractions from Iraq, and that we failed to catch the ringleaders behind 9/11, and that, like Iraq, our presence there does much to increase hostility towards the US, making us less safe.

[Thomas PM Barnett :: Weblog] A short chapter in "Iraq Uncensored: Perspectives," edited by Dr ...: As a result, adversarial non-state actors should recalculate assumptions about the desirability of attracting America's entry into perceived quagmires. Socializing your fight internationally doesn't elicit the binary benefits of the cold war, and if the Americans cannot be bled to exhaustion in any one conflict and will simply refuse to participate in additional ones once their perceived operational bandwidth is tapped, luring them into "imperial overreach" is unlikely to yield victory within an acceptable time frame.

[The Best Defense] Relearning guerrilla warfare - By Tom Ricks | The Best Defense: There is still a minority of historians who accept it, but they are in the minority. [Rethink Afghanistan War Blog] Bagram Prison Exposed - Rethink Afghanistan War Blog: The Taliban and al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan are just some of the consequences of U.S. meddling in the region's affairs since the 1950s and the development of the Mideast and south Asia oil industry -- the assassination of Iran's Mosadegh, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and the U.S. equipping the mujahadeen--who later mutated into the Taliban and Al Qaeda--as anti-Soviet guerrilla fighters, then the Iran-Iraq war (the U.S. of course supplying Saddam, including some of those pesky gas WMDs the conveniently amnesiac Neocons were so incensed about), then the invasion of Iraq and now this unresolvable mess in Afghanistan. This is a fire the U.S. cannot put out with weapons, only with patience, openness and a *lot* of infrastructure money.

[The Conservative Word] The Iraq War is Won | The Conservative Word: It is a country with an educated workforce, oil, millions of entrepreneurs, a transparent legal system, and it is a society which is not degenerating into civil war, or partition - contrary to many and sundry geniuses who stated the opposite for 4 years. Iraq 2009 will be generations ahead of Iraq pre-2003 without American intervention, including the hundred’s of thousands of lives saved from the barbarity of a fascist regime - one which murdered 1 million Iraqi’s over 20 years, or 25 times the current kill rate per annum in Iraq.

[Rethink Afghanistan War Blog] President Obama to Request Another $33 Billion for Unpopular Wars ...: What we really should do is allow for our enemies to use Afghanistan as their home base at the least this way we would have a way of monitoring them.
