[San Francisco Citizen] San Francisco Citizen » Blog Archive » What If They Called a War ...: Well, of course, it wasnt actually like nobody came, but the crowd at todays International Day of Action on the 6th Anniversary of Iraq War had an unexpectedly low turnout, even considering the spates of rain. This was the bulk of the crowd just after the speakers stopped speaking, with the insular International League of Peoples Struggle (ILPS) camera left, out of frame.
[The Mustard Seed] links for 2009-03-24 « The Mustard Seed: "HEAVY METAL IN BAGHDAD is a feature film documentary that follows the Iraqi heavy metal band Acrassicauda from the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003 to the present day. Playing heavy metal in a Muslim country has always been a difficult (if not impossible) proposition but after Saddams regime was toppled, there was a brief moment for the band in which real freedom seemed possible."

Among the major issues and events he addressed were the global capitalist economic and financial crisis, US hypocrisy on the Russian-Georgian conflict, support for the Greek people’s struggle in December 2008 and building solidarity actions against the Zionist attack on Gaza.

(8) In these cases, Sison revealed that he favors an alliance with the First Worldist parties of the RIM and ICMLPO over Islamic resistance to imperialism in the Third World.
[Kasama] On the Party: Bens How-To « Kasama: At times, it has seemed as if the key element of the “New Synthesis” is the “method and approach,” of Bob Avakian, at least according to enthusiastic Party supporters. This was clear to me and others when I was told over and over and over that the main thing to study in Avakians writings was his “method and approach.”
[ILPS Online] ILPS Online : Central Info Bureau : Statements : Message to the ...: But the American people are already disgusted by the US genocidal attacks on the Iraqi people, the gross human rights violations inflicted by the imperialists and puppets and the rising number of US casualties (even as these are understated at the moment as over 2,300 killed and over 17,000 wounded). The US is now in an absurd position of spending heavily on its war adventure, without any certainty of recouping the expenditures by profiting from Iraqi oil resources.
[Hyphen Blog] Why We March: We connect the issues we face here to the war in Iraq knowing, like Congresswoman Barbara Lee, that it is out of this world for the U.S. to spend trillions of dollars on an illegal war while 37 million Americans live in poverty and over 47 million live without health insurance.[2] Or in the wise rhymes of Tupac Shakur: They got money for wars, but cant feed the poor. This on top of unjust deportations, raids, and detentions that many families in our communities have suffered through since 9/11.

Thousands more who were shopping or just passing by stopped to listen to speeches, chants and songs that connected the wars abroad with the wars at home against the workers, the poor and the oppressed. Joyce Chediac, a Lebanese activist and journalist and LeiLani Dowell, a Fight Imperialism, Stand Together (FIST) organizer chaired the rally. Chants from the stage were led by activists from Nodutdol for Korean Community Development and CAAAV: Organizing Asian Communities.
[Kasama] Election Illusions, McCains Attraction, and Revolutionary Hope ...: As far as Frank’s comments–I was initially pleased to see Frank comment here but had hoped that Frank might have supported my assertion that the speakers at the main WCW event in Seattle promoted certain fundamental liberal principles (ie: such as that it was possible to change the nature of the Democratic Party or use the Democratic Party to stop the war in Iraq) and were not effectively opposed by other speakers — since I think Frank was there and Frank is generally a fairly astute observer of this kind of thing.
