[The Hastings Report] The alliance between Iraq’s two key political coalitions that was announced yesterday shores up the power of the Shiite-dominated regime in Baghdad for the next four years. My guess–a wild crystal ball prediction, to be sure–is that we’re seeing what the government in Iraq will look like for not only the next four years, but for at least the next decade.

When John McCain said we could just“muddle through” in Afghanistan, I argued for more resources andmore troops to finish the fight against the terrorists who actuallyattacked us on 9/11, and made clear that we must take out Osama binLaden and his lieutenants if we have them in our sights.John McCain likes to say that hell follow bin Laden to theGates of Hell –
[Nik Richie + Dirty Army intel, opinions, gossip, satire, and celebrities » Scottsdale] Former Iraq War Veteran Model: Well…she’s a Marine, not a soldier. You should know better than that since you were in the Army..Marines and soldiers are no where near being the same..So how about you quit disrespecting all service members and learn how to refer to people by their proper branch of military.
[Raw Story] Kristol calls for drilling closer to shore | Raw Story: Here are just a few: [the war in Iraq] "could have terrifically good effects troughout the Middle East" September 18, 2002 column ; and [removing Saddam] "would start a chain reaction in the Arab world that would be very healthy" November 21, 2002;

Even Latvia sounded like he was enjoying himself.
[Raw Story] Exclusive: Rep. Garamendi to push for permanent ban on West Coast ...: Going forward, if Dems begin to take control of energy policy, as it looks like they will, they will get the money and the policy formed will reflect that. My hope is that Dems will lean toward oil alternatives in general and not allow the corporations to get them to "shore up" the distribution channels in the process(pun intended), But then again, I also hope for world peace.
[Marisacat] Off shore « Marisacat: “Liberals who ordinarily sneer at Sarah Palin and others who cry ”Drill baby, drill, zipped their lips when Obama supported the same dangerous policy.” And, dont believe it when Obama vows that BP will pay the full cost of cleanup. “Anyone who sends an invoice to British Petroleum will need divine intervention if they ever expect to collect.”
[Fuck Off We're Full Of Racists] Boat People: Why the Queue Jumping Argument Fails « Fuck Off We're ...: In this respect, Australia, despite its notoriously harsh treatment of asylum seekers, is an attractive destination and it is certain that many will be driven by desperation and dire need to chance the voyage to Australia in whatever way and by whatever means they can. They will do so despite the lack of any evident softening of the governments stance on asylum seekers. Following the second Gulf War, there is no sign that new asylum seekers are being treated any better than they have been in the past and the same lack of compassion may be observed as has been to date.
[ParaPundit] ParaPundit: Iraq Veterans Will Get More Heart Disease: If the billions (trillions?) of dollars spent on this foolish war had been used to purchase oil, develop domestic reserves (Alaska, off-shore, outer continental shelf) or develop alternative energy sources, we would be a lot better off.
[Grace Blanchette Blog] Country First: (I must remind readers that it was John McCain who in front of America and Rick Warren [pastor and author of The Purpose Driven Life] claimed that General Petraeus “took us from defeat to victory in Iraq.” I’m not sure if he meant the Surge had already worked or if this was a little bit of wishful, projective thinking into the future.
[World Opinion Roundup] Partition Debate Splits Iraq - World Opinion Roundup: Now we had a secular Iraq, governed by (okay I agree) a dictator who probably did not have better records in human rights, but did atleast have an understanding of his own culture and was atleast open to a lot of ideologies (ex. a majority of women had jobs in baghdad during saddams rein).Well now that the US occupation has removed the control and reduced it into a nation of squabbling control freaks, especially the religious fanatics who are backed by money and who can command a faction of the population through bribes and persuasion.
[Newsweek Blogs] Dick Cheney's Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day - The ...: First, Alex Pareene at Salon's War Room notes that the giant, toxic, seemingly unstoppable oil spill headed toward the fragile and vulnerable Gulf Coast could be construed as kind of Cheney's fault. The Shiites in Iraq are now letting the Mullahs control their policy.
[The American Spectator and AmSpecBlog] The American Spectator : Will Petraeus Be Like Ike?: In spite of his repeated denials and the fact that his responsibilities in managing the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan would, at a minimum, logistically complicate any run against President Obama in 2012, several factors are likely to ensure that Petraeus's name keeps popping up as a potential dark horse candidate. One reason is that there's no clear standout among the politicians frequently cited as potential Republican nominees.
[Rethink Afghanistan War Blog] How much security did $1 trillion buy? - Rethink Afghanistan War Blog: REPOSITION U.S. FORCES to respond to 21st century strategic realities by shifting permanently-based forces to Southeast Europe and Southeast Asia, and by changing naval deployment patterns to reflect growing U.S. strategic concerns in East Asia.
[The Seminal] What “Secure Borders” Would Really Be Like | The Seminal: Second, tunnels: If we build a wall, they’ll just dig tunnels. Think about that for a moment: the argument that a wall won’t work is partly based on the argument that a wall will work so well that it will force smugglers to tunnel under it.
[The Swamp] Obama's econo-forecast: Sunnier skies: The Swamp: Most of these complainers from the above (Big Business, doctors, insurance companies, drug companies, banks, Wall Street, energy companies, the police, the CIA, the U.S. military, including the members of the old line and sinker from both parties, and including the party of tea) had every opportunity to change and input and fix things until Obama was elected. They didn't, that's why this "weakling" " feeble minded" "elitist" Obimbo was elected.
