Iraq Reviews > From the People (And Sarah Palin!) Who Brought Us the Iraq War ...

[Antiwar.com Blog] I am afraid she has just become the John Anderson of our time, who, having had the courage to tell the farmers in Iowa that farms subsidies were bad for America, and who then became the darling of everyonw, then went on to New York and caved in to the Israeli lobby, and from that point forward was not heard from ever again because he had proved himself no different from any other politician. This was Sarah's first big test and she failed it miserably She should have known better because she had before expressed doubt that our leaders knew what the hell they were doing in Iraq.

[BBC World Have Your Say] On air: Do we need to see what war looks like? « BBC World Have ...: The press has been pilloried over the past few years for its timidity in not investigating the origins of the Iraq war, for not looking deeply into the shenanigans that led to the worldwide economic collapse, for backing away from penetrating the issues that matter to people and instead relying on fluff and celebrity etc, etc. In short, for not being the truth-seeking point of the spear that it’s always claimed is its reason for existence.

[Truthout - All Articles] t r u t h o u t | Pictures of Dying Marine Bring War Home to America: I haven't had to bury a child yet that is a pain I hope I don't have to endure.Compassion is a defined as deep awareness of and sympathy for another's suffering.Joshua's father if he's lucky will stay on the right stuck in his military belief killing is good and his son is a hero.If his son had killed a Taliban fighter he would call him a good Christian soldier, hell if he got lucky and got 6 or 7 buy himself we would make him a hero.Now I wonder is the Taliban soldier who fired the Rocket Propelled Grenade that killed Joshua and stopped the marine advance is considered a hero by his dad? Show the photos of my death it's the truth, and while your at it show the photos of all the collateral damage, if you have gotten a little brave telling the truth GO ALL THE WAY SHOW ALL PHOTOS both sides the maimed and killed children.Then try on a real American word compassion.

[GlobalPost] Profile of courage | GlobalPost: In what seemed, at the time, a quixotic performance, Ted Kennedy returned to the Senate floor time and again, warning Americans and his fellow senators of the catastrophe ahead. His prestige gave cover to other Democrats, and the number of “no”

[SWJ Blog] 7 September SWJ Roundup (SWJ Blog): Metz concludes that the United States has a long-standing, continuing problem “developing sound assumptions when the opponent operates within a different psychological and cultural framework.” He sees a pattern of misjudgments about Saddam and Iraq based on Western cultural and historical bias and a pervasive faith in the superiority of America’s worldview and institutions. This myopia contributed to America being caught off guard by Saddam’s invasion of Kuwait in 1990, then underestimating his longevity, and finally miscalculating the likelihood of a stable and democratic Iraq after he was toppled.

[Marine Corps Times - News] Can deadly 'Trust' game be stopped? - MarineCorpsTimes.com: In Nelson’s and Malone’s unit, 2nd section, Scout Platoon, 2nd TankBattalion, out of Camp Lejeune, the unofficial rules went something like this: A Marine, usually a noncommissioned officer, would partially insert a magazine into his M9 and pretend to rack the slide so it would appear a round was in the chamber. He’d then point the weapon at a junior Marine and ask, “Do you trust me?”

[News] The airline bomb plot: a reminder that Britain is at war with ...: And while you are researching what we all know (there is a terrorist threat in the world connected to a fundamentalist view of Islam that is killing innocent people) and listing attrocities why not come up with the accurate figures for the dead and maimed by the west and its allies in the same time-span. Try accounting the displaced and those with lives destroyed by trauma.

[Be John Galt] Sarah Palin Attacks Associated Press via Facebook | Be John Galt: I generally ignore the person in question myself, but she has no decency whatsoever with regard to the photo of the Bernie Bernard, as long as she can attack Palin for it. My nephew was a Marine over there and in Iraq, tripped an IED that killed the guy behind him and caused deafness and post concussion syndrome.

[Politics Daily] Senators Go to War: Sir! Yes, Sir, Senator! -- Politics Daily: Instead, according to what I read in Stars and Stripes, the daily GI newspaper that comes sporadically and a week late, Levin and Reed had an audience with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, sat through the usual run of high-level military briefings and even met with some senior Afghan elders in Helmand Province (let's guess how much brutal ground truth came out of that ceremony). Then they rushed away and held a press conference to announce what sounded like a pre-cooked finding: Afghanistan doesn't need more U.S. troops;

[Arkansas Blog] Arkansas Blog: Why work with these goons?: Yes, and when bush had a one-half trillion dollar deficit liberals hit the roof, wrung their hands and called it irresponsible. (I have always been confused about blaming the President for budget deficits since Congress alone has the power to authorize and appropriate the expenditure of monies.) I haven't heard a word from liberals opposing a $1.8 TRILLION deficit.

[The Housing Bubble Blog] The Housing Bubble Blog » Bits Bucket For September 7, 2009: THESE ARE THE REAL HEROS! It takes courage to refuse that order to deploy, murder, rape, and pillage when all your buddies and CO are pushing you hard to do otherwise.

[The Opinionator] The Bombs of Iraq - The Opinionator Blog - NYTimes.com: Iraq’s Arabs and Kurds are nearly at war along the long front that separates the Kurdish region from the rest of Iraq, especially in and around Nineveh province, whose capital is Mosul, and over Tamim province, whose capital, Kirkuk, is coveted by the expansionist Kurds. Meanwhile, the Sunni Arab minority is increasingly alienated from the regime of Prime Minister Maliki, who’s staunchly refused to compromise with the demands of the opposition to his increasingly authoritarian rule.

[Pajamas Media] Pajamas Media » Real Liberals Should Support Israel: The Palestinian movement and its supporters have come to represent pure resentment–the Israelis have been desperate to get the Palestinians to accept a state since 1993, but the Palestinians can’t, because doing so would mean giving up their grievances and the attention and sense of invincible righteousness it gives them (not to mention the pathological relations with their international supporters, to which they have grown addicted). The alternative would be to abandon their irredentist ambitions and partner with the Israelis, who would be glad to help guide them through the same path toward prosperity the Israelis themselves have forged.

[Commentary] Commentary » Blog Archive » Beating Back the Pre-9/11 Crowd: “So far, to their credit, they’ve either remained silent or they’ve been supportive, guys like McCain and Graham,” said Matt Bennett, vice president of Third Way, a moderately left-wing think tank, referring to Senator John McCain of Arizona and Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, both Republicans.

[At War] The Afghan Elections: A Postscript - At War Blog - NYTimes.com: Like many other people, I find it difficult to find a middle way between the risk that the war will descend into an unending tale of American blood and treasure spent in pursuit of an unachievable victory, and the equally compelling argument that America cannot conscionably abandon Afghanistan to the chaos and misery that would be the sure fate of its 30 million or so citizens if the Taliban and Al Qaeda were to prevail. And that’s not to mention the risks to the West of allowing Afghanistan to again become a sanctuary for extremists to plot new terrorist attacks in New York, London, Madrid, and countless other potential targets for the jihadists’ fury.

[Live Generously] John Piper and the Obama School Speech « Live Generously: In light of all of this partisan criticism, I am especially impressed with the statement that John Piper made about the upcoming speech on his blog. It bears mentioning that Piper has not been especially supportive of President Obama up to this point.
