From Memos, Insights Into Ally's Doubts On Iraq War

Al-Muhajabah's Islamic Blogshttp://www.muhajabah.com/islamicblog [Al-Muhajabah's Islamic Blogs] Critics of the Bush administration contend the documents -- including the now-famous Downing Street Memo of July 23, 2002 -- constitute proof that Bush made the decision to go to war at least eight months before it began, and that the subsequent diplomatic campaign at the United Nations was a charade, designed to convince the public that war was necessary, rather than an attempt to resolve the crisis peacefully. They contend the documents have not received the attention they deserve.

[A Tiny Revolution] What The Washington Post Left Out: Here's why that's funny: it's true the UK documents discuss the "obstacles" faced by Blair and that these obstacles included "much stronger domestic opposition to war." But take a look at this excerpt from the March 14, 2002 memo (pdf) to Blair from his foreign policy advisor David Manning, and see if you can spot one particular obstacle that the Post left out:

The administration has been afraid of doing that for some time for fear they would be blamed for not keeping them out, but it doesn't matter the US public needs to know who they are fighting and it needs to have a enemy to rally against, and hell would have trouble making a greater piece of evil shit then Zarqawi, so use him damn it.

Part LI The Insane ...: Shortly before 7 p.m., a group of anarchists arrived with banners, and a masked speaker -- wearing a scarf covering his lower face and a black hooded sweatshirt -- made an impassioned speech against the Iraq war and evil effects of world corporate power. Most of those present then took to the streets, marching around downtown Palo Alto, under the Caltrain tracks and forming in the parking lot Bloomingdale's at the Stanford Shopping Center, later heading back into downtown.

[Blog.pdamerica.org] MoveOn wants to know if they should focus on getting the troops out: With the revelation of the secret Downing Street Minutes, which exposed the fact that George Bush and Tony Blair had decided to invade Iraq in April of 2002, a heated debate has blown through media, congressional and activist circles. The decision to go to war in Iraq was made before any public debate was initiated, before the United Nations was brought into the conversation, confirming that Bush’s blather about wanting peace and leaving war as the last resort was just that: blather.

My two cents: it's inevitable and healthy that with national power now exclusively held by Republicans, the left will experience a revival in the popularity of its journalism.

Unfortunately, instead of standing around and waiting politley to be killed, these jihadists are going to take the skills they've learned so effectively in Iraq and spread it around the world.
