[Video Cafe's feed] When Joe was on the Colbert Report in 2008, he pretty much summarized the Bush fiscal legacy then, namely, that he took an economy that was generating budget surpluses, with projections that the deficits could be entirely wiped out, and wound up nearly doubling the deficits.

[Politics Daily] German Magazine Says Obama 'Nice Guy Act' Is Failing on World ...: Saddam has used chemical weapons before, both against Iraqs enemies and against his own people. He is working to develop delivery systems like missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles that could bring these deadly weapons against U.S. forces and U.S. facilities in the Middle East."”John Rockefeller, Oct 10, 2002....
[The Plum Line] Happy Hour Roundup | The Plum Line: Furthermore, unless youre going to ask five heavy brigades to become infantry brigades, something thats been done in Iraq but never Afghanistan, then youve only got 31,600 soldiers you could send into Afghanistan available in December. More than 40,000 is really kind of pushing it, particularly if the point is to sustain the escalation for longer than the length of the additional brigades tours.”
[Alan Colmes' Liberaland] Alan Colmes' Liberaland » How Can We Afford War But Not Health Care?: ERROR #4 What conservatives always leave out when discussing the history of the Civil Rights Act is that right after Kennedy was assassinated, Johnson called his aides together to discuss strategy. He pointed out that the Civil Rights Act was a major goal of President Kennedy that remained undone and said bluntly he would use the death of Kennedy to get it passed and that is exactly what he did.
[Jack & Jill Politics] Afternoon Open Thread - Jack & Jill Politics: Republican leaders are circulating a resolution listing 10 positions Republican candidates should support to demonstrate that they “espouse conservative principles and public policies” that are in opposition to “Obamas socialist agenda.” According to the resolution, any Republican candidate who broke with the party on three or more of these issues- in votes cast, public statements made or answering a questionnaire - would be penalized by being denied party funds or the party endorsement.
[RealClearPolitics - Homepage] RealClearPolitics - Senators Durbin, Feinstein, Lieberman ...: LIEBERMAN: Well, I voted last night, as 59 others did, to go ahead with the debate because I -- I want us to begin not only debating health care reform, but doing something about health care reform. But I don't think anybody feels this bill, as Senator Reid put it down, though he made a lot of progress in blending bills together -- I don't think anybody thinks that this bill will pass as it is.
[Truthdig: Drilling Beneath the Headlines] Truthdig - Reports - Where Are the Real Deficit Hawks?: complaints about health legislation reducing the deficit and few “budget hawk” complaints about defense initiatives that, according to Government Executive magazine, “[put] the president on track to spend more on defense, in real dollars, than any other president has in one term of office since World War II.” And that estimate doesn’t even count additional spending on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
[The Blog From Another Dimension] The Blog From Another Dimension: Democratic Ticket, 2008: Like Dubya, she is polarizing, but mostly in the sense that many die-hard Republicans despise anyone named "Clinton" out of knee-jerk reaction and years of indoctrination by right-wing media figures--and those who see her so negatively won't vote Democratic anyway, no matter who runs.
[Balloon Juice] Balloon Juice » Blog Archive » Ungovernable: And now that we’ve passed away a couple of trillion on nothing, complete wasted bullshit in Iraq, the infantile spoiled American people are pointing their stubby little 3-year-old fingers at everyone, absolutely everyone…but themselves. The infantile spoiled American people now hurl themselves down on the carpet kicking and screaming in an apopolectic tanrum…because politicians did what the foolishlyignorant and empty-headed American people demanded they do after 9/11.
[The Swamp] Americans should 'rebel:' Hatch on health: The Swamp: "If you can't get 70 or 80 votes on a bill that affects one-sixth of the American economy, you know it is a lousy bill,'' the Republican senator maintained. "This is a lousy bill that is going to cost American tax payers like mad for the rest of our lives, if they happen to pass it.
[CNN Newsroom] CNN Newsroom: Blog Archive - President's War Strategy « - Blogs ...: Some here say We have no business there and that We started this war and that this war is illegitimate, Bah humbug, Al Qaeda attacked New York City, Washington DC and then there was flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania, Those attacks were launched from Afghanistan and the Taliban were harboring Al Qaeda and allowing Al Qaeda to work from Afghanistan, The Taliban and Al Qaeda can be defeated and must be defeated there, To leave is to give them a large victory that they can crow about to get more recruits with, Remote Drones are nice, But they are no substitute for taking and holding the high ground on nearby mountain ridges as the Taliban are doing just that when they attack now(they don't need to hold the ridges, just to attack from them), As was demonstrated by a small base of ours that was in a valley, We need to have good strategy and that strategy is to take high ground(the flanks of a valley/passes), any mountain passes and then advance some more all while taking more territory just like the island hopping campaign in the Pacific in WWII when the US fought/defeated the fanatical forces of Imperial Japan back then.
[Wizbang] "Obama tripled the national deficit his first year in office ...: While to many the first word that comes to mind about the Bush Administration would be "lies" or "war" or "torture" or "incompetence," to the economist the first word may well be "recession." Bush's first term recession began in March 2001 and lasted to November 2001, with Clinton out of office for several weeks by the time it began. Bush's second term recession began in December 2007 (a recession far deeper than his first and one that has had economists deeply worried) and was the one inherited by Obama.
