Iraq Reviews > Can Cooperating With Iran Work?

[Riehl World View] Problem 1: Iran and Syria are terrorist-supporting nations whose regimes currently believe they have a greater interest in chaos, violence and dividing the spoils in Iraq than they do in peace, prosperity and unity in Iraq. They also have no interest in helping the western powers emerge anything like victorious in Iraq.

http://www.juancole.com [Juancole.com] Informed Comment: Since the US Coalition Provisional Authority essentially stole $9 billion from Iraq to run itself and the country the first year, basically the $9 billion actually spent on reconstruction by the US was little more than a repayment of the money taken (quite illegally under the law of Occupation), and the actual US investment in Iraq is zero. While the American public is being taxed to pay a bill for Iraq mounting toward $1 trillion (and Americans are nowadays staring the tax man in the face), that appears to go mostly to finance continued search and destroy missions that are probably mostly failures as counter insurgency.

http://time.blogs.com [Time.blogs.com] Andrew Sullivan | The Daily Dish: Without question, the United States can’t worry so much about fueling anti-American sentiment that we in any way compromise national security, but if you really think this guy’s sentencing doesn't matter one way or the other, why even risk turning him into a poster child for the cause? You can argue that justice demands that Moussaoui die or even that the victims’ families deserve closure, but to argue that you can’t be bothered...

Dilbertblog.typepad.com[Dilbertblog.typepad.com] The Dilbert Blog: Quitting Iraq: you seem to think that the experts made all of the false and (let's face it) stupid assumptions that the bush administration made going into Iraq, The experts didn't believe any of the things you listed- and the american government knew it- also the lasting impression you mentioned that the americans are serious about wmds and terrorists but their aim is off is not the one that was actually made. Most of the rest of the world (including us canadians) believes that the bush administration appealed to the fear of the americans to enable them to advance the economic interests of their own oil and weapons companies and the saudies- who are pouring cash into their coffers, if anything they showed that they don't care about wmds as they have done nothing of real importance to stop north korea from developing its nukes.

Riverbendblog.blogspot.comhttp://riverbendblog.blogspot.com [Riverbendblog.blogspot.com] Baghdad Burning: Meanwhile, the US was bombing the Iraqi army as it was pulling out of Kuwait and the Tawabin were killing off some of the Iraqi troops who had abandoned their tanks and artillery and were coming back on foot through the south. Many of those troops, and the civilians killed during the attacks, looting, and burning, were buried in some of the mass graves we conveniently blame solely on Saddam and the Republican Guard- but no one bothers to mention this anymore because it’s easier to blame the dictator.
