Iraq Reviews > Bill Maher Has Fun With 'Fox Facts' Chyrons

http://www.newshounds.us [News Hounds: We watch FOX so you don't have to.] Even Bill Maher noticed the big push by Fox News to run 'Happy Iraqi' stories, especially last week. On his HBO Real Time Show on Friday, Maher showed an actual 'happy Iraqi' story with a picture of Bill Hemmer in Iraq and a chyron on the lower third of the picture reading:

http://redstateson.blogspot.com [Red State Son] Being There: There's a concerted, at times hysterical, effort underway by war supporters to attack the media for being too negative about Iraq, while they insist that American troops are upbeat, happy, and filled with patriotic purpose every waking moment they patrol Iraqi cities and villages. This scenario is most heavily peddled by those who've visited Iraq, and it's used as a way to bludgeon critics by saying "I've been there.

[SyriaComment.com] The Bayanouni - Khaddam Link-up: Is the... : There has been a flurry of articles covering the different aspects of the Brussels meeting between Khaddam and Bayanouni of the Muslim Brothers, after which the formation of a transitional government was announced. From one point of view, this is smart politics on Bayanouni's part.

[Mudville Gazette] Dawn Patrol: ...The “Road Warriors” of 1st Battalion, 118th Field Artillery Regiment, 48th BCT, take the lead for the combat logistics patrol; convoys of sometimes over 100 eighteen-wheeled trucks driven by “third country nationals,” that provide the fuel, water, food, repair parts and other classes of supply that are requisitioned by units operating in the western sector of Iraq.

http://theimpolitic.blogspot.com [The Impolitic] War is hell: I'm of the mind that censure is a waste of time and the Dems should be going straight to impeachment. Nonetheless, it's good to see Tom Harkin get on board for Feingold's resolution.

http://dailywarnews.blogspot.com [Today in Iraq] DAILY WAR NEWS FOR SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2006 ... : It is, however, somewhat ironic to be concerned with such events during a week when hundreds, perhaps thousands, more have been killed, and during a time when reports emerge continually of currently operating government torture centers (I'm talking about Iraqi government torture centers here) killing dozens or hundreds of people. And it is also ironic to be talking about a trial for the aftermath of an event, the attempted assassination of the head of state, which did actually occur (that seems to be undisputed), and for which we learned today (not for the first time) that those who were executed actually had trials (however fair or not), which is more than can be said for anyone incarcerated by the Americans in Bagram or Guantanamo or dozens of other secret prisons, dozens of whom have been killed (including being tortured to death).

http://www.huffingtonpost.com [Huffingtonpost.com] The Blog | Donnie Fowler: Embracing a Successful Iraqi Election ...: First - I hope what I have read and learned about the state of the three warring factions of Iraq is wrong but it is difficult to dismiss the Ambassador to Iraq (himself an Iraqi) when he says that their new constitution an this election will more than likely further the divide among these factions and have a great chance of leading to civil war. But then that is what Bush is good at - divisiveness.

[Mudvillegazette.com] Mudville Gazette: When the media willingly chooses not to cover positive stories coming out of Iraq like infrastructure rebuilding, free medical care being provided by soldiers, complete changes for the better in cities like Tal Afar, and the kindness shown towards the children of Iraq by soldiers everyday to name a few, then soldiers feel slighted by the media. It is almost as if the media is saying, “Yeah, yeah, yeah, those are all great things but they don’t sell so I am not reporting them.” Soldiers tend to feel that media types do not care about what they are doing and do not care about telling the truth.
