Iraq Reviews > ASIAN DEFENCE: Who are Iraq war's winners and losers?

[ASIAN DEFENCE] What's more, Palast pointed out, after the Iraq invasion the Saudis withheld more than a million barrels of oil a day from the market. "The one-year 121 percent post-invasion jump in the price of crude, from under $30 a barrel to over $60, sucked that $120 billion windfall to the Saudis from SUV drivers and factory owners in the West," he said.

[Dr Nasir Khan] The US War against Iraq: The Destruction of a Civilization « Dr ...: The US seven-year war and occupation of Iraq is driven by several major political forces and informed by a variety of imperial interests. However these interests do not in themselves explain the depth and scope of the sustained, massive and continuing destruction of an entire society and its reduction to a permanent state of war.

[The Opinionator] The Bombs of Iraq - The Opinionator Blog - NYTimes.com: American journalists, reporting in recent weeks on the few joint operations that the two armies are now conducting, have picked up on the many bad habits that the training programmes have failed to eradicate, from slackness in patrolling to knocking off for tea at inappropriate moments. In a report which caused a stir when it became public two weeks ago, Colonel Timothy Reese, a senior US military adviser, listed corruption, poor management, lack of initiative, and failure to resist pressure from Shia political parties as unhappy characteristics of the Iraqi security forces.

[Maldives news|Maldives Chronicle] Afghanistan: US-led NATO Global Terror Hot-spot-II: The “Mother of all Battles” was a military conflict initiated by a coalition force from 34 nations, with UN authorisation, between Iraq and the coalition with the purpose of expelling Iraqi forces from Kuwait after Iraq’s occupation and annexation of Kuwait in August 1990. In October 1991, under the sponsorship of the United States and the then Soviet Union, Middle East peace talks were held in Madrid, Spain

[The Survivalist Forum] The Survivalist Forum » Blog Archive » America's Warfare State: “Defense Earnings Continue to Soar,” Renae Merle wrote in The Washington Post on July 30, 2007. “Several of Washington’s largest defense contractors said last week that they continue to benefit from a boom in spending on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan”¦” Merle added, “Profit reports from Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics and Lockheed Martin showed particularly strong results in operations in the region.” More recently, Boeing’s second-quarter earnings this year rose 17 percent, Associated Press reported, in part because of what AP called “robust defense sales.”

[Baghdad Bureau] Playing the Blame Game in Iraq - At War Blog - NYTimes.com: If your attitude toward Iraqis, evidenced by this post, is typical of all Americans, it might explain why the U.S. lost its hegemony via the invasion of Iraq and torture of her citizens. It’s sickening really, that mocking and hurting Iraqis seems to be more important to some Americans than the economic well-being of the U.S. Here’s hoping this post makes it past the NYTimes censors.

[GlobalComment] GlobalComment » When Iran gets the bomb: A direct ground invasion to neutralize the county is simply unrealistic, with America already tied up in two theatres of war, and supporting an impoverished Pakistan in its battle against home-grown Taliban. Israel too will be wary, because the 2006 Lebanon invasion aptly demonstrated what a determined guerrilla force can achieve against conventional armed might.

[Manchester United Forum - ManUtdTalk.com] Peace and stability restored to Iraq - Manchester United Forum ...: IF there wasn't any international forces there, Iraq would be in a extremely intensive civil war, that would most likely bring to the forefront the massive divisions between Shi'aa and Sunni Muslims. How would the muslims from other countries deal with it, would they get involved, would the conflict spread, with Iran led Shi'aas on one side, and Saudi led Sunnis on the other?

[Pakistan Daily: The Pakistan News Agency] US democracy Agenda: Crime, Corruption, Burials & “Reconstructions ...: What is more atrocious is the fact Saudi Arabia is also behind NATO genocides in Islamic world as much as they just enjoy the intermittent holocausts in Palestine by Zionist regime even after they, shamelessly, shook hands with Jews to appease the Bushdom rogues, Since “key” Muslim nations don’t really oppose GST fascism in their own countries, non-Muslim nations like Russia and China also fueled the crisis and earned extra points from the NATO rogues, especially to mute Human rights issue, for their support, both indirect and direct.

[Baghdad Bureau] Goodbye Pasha - At War Blog - NYTimes.com: To Hassan Farris , I must respectfully apologize if I truly insulted anyone in Iraq with my thoughts the intention was just to give justice to the situation when many like myself perceive much propaganda before and after. I get the impression that if you are an Iraq citizen you may not live there now or have’nt for some time.I realize that much of Iraq suffered under Saddam but there is the other side of Iraq that americans never noticed ,just like in America read my post about the Italian traveler here in this blog.

[The Housing Bubble Blog] The Housing Bubble Blog » Bits Bucket For August 19, 2009: Official Washington knows that Obama has signed off on ten years of war, in effect, an endless commitment: “As the Obama administration expands U.S. involvement in Afghanistan, military experts are warning that the United States is taking on security and political commitments that will last at least a decade and a cost that will probably eclipse that of the Iraq war.” (Walter Pincus, Washington Post, August 9, 2009) At this stage in the Iraq war, there were mass demonstrations against Bush, which he ignored.

[Baghdad Bureau] How to Wage War in Iraq - Against Hitler - At War Blog - NYTimes.com: (The line about not changing Iraqis was probably more appropriate for our leaders.) Almost all is trite information–Iraqis are different, the land is different, the food is different, treat the people with respect and they are more likely to help you, etc.. Unless there are more specifics, this book strikes me more as an interesting artifact of a period in American history when almost all Americans had no way of knowing about life outside of their hometown, let alone their state or country.
