Iraq Reviews > Another viewpoint

http://thephnompenh.blogspot.com [The Phnom Penh] a BBC series called The Power of Nightmares, which seems to argue that the description of al-Qaeda as a global terrorist network which poses an existential threat to the US and Europe is a fantasy promulgated so that the populace will, from fear, accept whatever their political masters do. Since Cambodia Cable TV has dropped BBC, I have not been able to watch it for myself.

[Blog.bearstrong.net] Bjørn Stærk blog - Krekar on Al-Qaeda's Hard Drive?: It was published in the Atlantic Monthly as that of a "member of an Islamist group operating in Kurdistan" in Alan Cullison's article Inside Al-Qaeda's Hard Drive in September 2004, where it was noticed by Trevor Stanley, who thought it looked rather similar to Mullah Krekar.

http://edtalkinghoarse.blogspot.com [Edtalkinghoarse.blogspot.com] Talking Hoarsely: To the rhetorical question posed by Carver I can say definitely 'yes, I can imagine a website devoted to GWB's best speeches.' Not only can I imagine it, I think that whether GWB is re-elected or not (the conviction underlying Carver's scepticism being that he will not be: 'A Los Angeles poll conducted the week of the funeral shows the gap between Bush and his opponent John Kerry continuing to widen, with Mr Kerry leading by seven points.') his speeches will be remembered because people will find things Bush said, that others ridiculed, to be correct, just as Reagan was correct- but Bush will be judged to have been more ambitious, and consequently more fundamentally right at a crucial moment in history. (Actually, this website listing important speeches from GWB already exists).

Tinyvital.comhttp://www.tinyvital.com [Tinyvital.com] Useful Fools: The AP, like most of the MSM, needs to consistently show the Iraq war in the worst possible light. Hence, in spite of the very significant good news that the US loss rate since Jan 30th has dropped significantly, they report The number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq has topped 1,500, a top headline but a totally artificial and insignificant news story (why not "topped 1536" or 1492?).

http://www.pwhce.org [Pwhce.org] PWHCE - Iraq Links. Irak Linkar.: The Middle East Media Research Institute, which publishes regular English translations from Arab media sources, published this highly interesting series of excerpts from Arabic media reports related to the Islamists who went to fight 'Jihad' in Iraq. Both the disillusionment of Islamists who found themselves shunned and even shot at by Iraqis, and the fact that these foreign Islamists are not mentioned in media reports about 'organised Iraqi resistance' are worth noting.

News.bbc.co.uk[News.bbc.co.uk] BBC NEWS | Americas | Blogging the US election - X: Wow, Daniel in Lincoln in the UK certainly touched off a fair amount of comment when he asked: "Whether American people are finding the international view of America to be a major factor in their voting decisions, or whether the anti-war sentiment is based solely on casualties rather than how they're perceived by other countries?"
