Iraq Reviews >  Iraq Withdrawal

[The Ruth Group] I had the opportunity to hear Juan Cole last night at the Peninsula Peace and Justice meeting in Palo Alto. Lucid, informed, polite, some of what he said was what people wanted to hear, some was not.

Just a Bump in the Beltway[Just a Bump in the Beltway] Another Purple Finger Day: Iraq's hopes also depend on the election in December of a larger group of secular and liberal Iraqis and a greater number of Shiites who oppose the separatism recently embraced by the most powerful Shiite leaders. This week's accord did not alter the refusal of those politicians to yield on constitutional provisions that would allow the creation of a nine-province Shiite ministate that would control Iraq's largest oil reserves and could emerge as an Islamic republic and Iranian client.

Informed Comment[ Informed Comment] Referendum on Constitution The Iraqis are votin...: Guerrillas fought a firefight with American forces at Ramadi on Friday, among other instances of violence. Since the US military is now preventing most people from driving, though, there will be fewer car bombings until the driving ban is lifted.

http://truthtalkziraq.blogspot.com [TruthTalkzIRAQ] Pix, DC March, DNA, etc: And he is more than a little responsible for the carnage and damage done, because of his budget-slashing on preventative structural projects, because of his deployment of needed-at-home Guard forces to Iraq, because of his staffing of the government with completely incompetent crony hacks, and because of his and their astonishingly lame performance in responding to a known crisis. Where I come from, a president who remains on vacation during possibly the worst natural disaster to hit this country, praises his FEMA chief for doing a "heckuva job" when the guy doesn't know what any American with a TV set has known for 24 hours about New Orleans, and then later fires him for poor performance, is a president who should be impeached for those reasons alone.

[Penraker] Why You Can't Believe Anything Juan Cole says: Anyone who sits here and reads the Arab media - a media controlled by despotic dictators - and believes what he reads either finds no problem with dictators or does not have very good judgment. But, Cole has always touted his supposedly vast expertise in the Arabic language as his claim to fame.

[ Seeker Blog] Cole of Arabia: saidCole cannot speak Arabic because I know he can get by. But I have news for the professor: “ma fi...

xymphorahttp://xymphora.blogspot.com [xymphora] Such a dastardly policy: The kit of the captured soldiers included an anti-tank weapon (and who is the only force with tanks in Basra?), and towing equipment (to tow a booby-trapped car filled with explosives?). It would seem to me that the onus is clearly on the British military to prove that its men weren't up to "such a dastardly policy".

http://iraqpundit.blogspot.com [IraqPundit] Cole of Arabia: Of course, the dictators and their slaves will oppose that, because it means freedom for the Iraqui people, something that the children of Saddam don't want to happen. But you are wasting your time, you heralds of repression and destruction, the times for Democracy have arrived, and once here, they won't go back to the old genocide and repression.

Juancole.com[Juancole.com] Informed Comment : 09/01/2004 - 09/30/2004: The remark of Speaker of the House Denis Hastert that al-Qaeda would like to manipulate the US election with a terrorist bombing and would be happier with Kerry as president is simply wrong. The Democrats are correct that such comments are a form of fear-mongering aimed at stampeding the American public into voting for Bush out of terror.

Antiwar.comhttp://www.antiwar.com [Antiwar.com] Repressive MEMRI - by Juan Cole: You also write that MEMRI is an "anti-Arab propaganda machine" that "cherry-picks the vast Arabic press." If you have any level of familiarity with MEMRI, you should be aware of our Reform Project, which is one of the most important of MEMRI's projects, and which receives much of our energy and resources. The Reform Project (www.memri.org/reform.html) is devoted solely to finding and amplifying the progressive voices in the Arab world.

http://iraqblogcount.blogspot.com [Iraqblogcount.blogspot.com] Iraq Blog Count: 07/01/2005 - 07/31/2005: I made this blog earlier, thought better of going out with it, but then thought if I could get even a few people to help Khalid and send some letters and emails to their representative, then it was worth taking all the possible trolling. Anyway, it's just the right thing to do in this moment of time.

[Junkyardblog.net] JunkYardBlog: June 12, 2005 - June 18, 2005 Archives: The session took an awkward turn when witness Ray McGovern, a former intelligence analyst, declared that the United States went to war in Iraq for oil, Israel and military bases craved by administration "neocons" so "the United States and Israel could dominate that part of the world." He said that Israel should not be considered an ally and that Bush was doing the bidding of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
