[Its My Forum] If you know the story of the Clintons you know that they are extremely poll tested and strategic so it makes sense that she voted to authorize war with Iraq, she even said that regime change was the policy towards the end of the Clinton years. Could the Iraq War have been prevented? | anotherpanacea
[anotherpanacea] Right now, I am tempted and troubled by defeatism: basically, given the structure of American governement, the political culture after September 11, and the various incentives and pressures that operate on American politicians, nothing that citizens could have done would have prevented our disastrous, unjust, and illegal “pre-emptive” invasion in Iraq.

Despite the existence of certain ambiguities, the wording of Resolution 1441 cannot reasonably be interpreted (as the government did) as authorizing individual Member States to use military force to compel Iraq to comply with the Security Council's resolutions, without authorization from the Security Council.

Was the Iraq war illegal?
[Liberal Democrat Voice] “It is not a court of law, the Chilcot Inquiry, it was explicitly set up not to determine whether it was illegal or not so that is going to have to happen elsewhere by the lawyers, by the court, but my view is that I have heard enough now to suggest that this wasn’t taken in line…and worse, more than that, there is clear evidence which has come out in the Chilcot Inquiry that the Attorney General who is supposed to be the guardian of the legality of doing things was flip flopping from one minute to the next, and there is overwhelming evidence and very serious allegations that he was pressured into keeping silent about his own reservations about the illegality of the war by Jack Straw, by Tony Blair and by others.
