March 13 Iraq War Protest marks 7th Anniversary of the US ...

[Grand Rapids Institute for Information Democracy] We are coming up on another anniversary of the illegal US invasion of Iraq, and we are seeing now more clearly than ever that the Democratic Party has been little more than a redecorating party for US imperialism and corporate domination. The war(s) raging on in the Middle East are unjust, unwarranted, and unacceptable, and they are sucking money and power from the common people at a disgusting rate.

Army's Iraq Handbook: Avoid War Crimes And Beware Arab Paranoia ...

[TPMMuckraker] I think you have to bear in mind that it is written for a specific purpose, and that purpose is to try give the audience, U.S. Servicemembers (not all of whom are inclined to take an academic or cosmopolitan view of things) some insights into a culture that they are going to have to encounter under the most stressful of circumstances, and for them to make the least number of mistakes possible.

FAIR Blog » Blog Archive » Tom Friedman's Iraq War

[FAIR Blog] Ironically, though, it was the neo-conservative Bush team that argued that culture didn’t matter in Iraq, and that the prospect of democracy and self-rule would automatically bring Iraqis together to bury the past. While many liberals and realists contended that Iraq was an irredeemable tribal hornet's nest and we should not be sticking our hand in there;

Eunomia » Revisiting The Iraq War Debate

[Eunomia] Pro-war conservatives preferred to fixate on the latter because these arguments made it easier to demonize the antiwar position in the eyes of other conservatives, most of whom support the empire and would be happy to serve Israeli interests (which many of them readily conflate with our own), but they never made much of a case that these arguments were wrong, much less obviously “kooky.” Yes, of course, pro-war conservatives believe them to be kooky, but these people also usually believe that the Iraq war was a vital and necessary campaign of national defense and some of them still hang on to the fiction that invading Iraq without cause had something to do with anti-terrorism, which are ideas so far removed from reality that one might almost call them kooky.

Iraq War to Be Renamed -- Politics Daily

Exclusive: War in Iraq to Be Given New Name - Political Punch

[Political Punch] When I heard a famous American historian talk about how ridiculously short the memory of the American voter is, I said to myself, it cannot possibly be true that any one who has lived in the US over the last 10-20 years can forget how we ended up in Iraq. We ended up in Iraq because the last president wanted to go to Iraq to finish off Daddy's war because of the criticism he saw his father get for not finishing it the first time.

Israelis Behind the Iraq War | MPACUK - Empowerment through ...

[MPACUK - Empowerment through political participation] “As I recall that discussion, it was less to do with specifics about what we were going to do on Iraq or, indeed, the Middle East, because the Israel issue was a big, big issue at the time. I think, in fact, I remember, actually, there may have been conversations that we had even with Israelis, the two of us, whilst we were there.

Britain's Inquiry into the Iraq War and the Israel Lobby Taboo

[Wake Up America!] Specifically, Professor Mearsheimer and I made it clear in our article and especially in our book that the idea of invading Iraq originated in the United States with the neoconservatives, and not with the Israeli government. But as the neoconservative pundit Max Boot once put it, steadfast support for Israel is ”˜a key tenet of neoconservatism.’ Prominent neo-conservatives occupied important positions in the Bush administration, and in the aftermath of 9/11, they played a major role in persuading Bush and Cheney to back a war against Iraq, which they had been advocating since the late 1990s.

Obama & Pals Take Credit For Iraq War Success

[Flopping Aces] “I mean, the truth of the matter is that, that the ”” America’s ”” this administration’s policy and the surge are a failure, and that the surge, which was supposed to stop sectarian violence and ”” long enough to give political reconciliation, there’s been no political reconciliation”¦ The reality is that, although there has been some mild progress on the security front, there is, in fact, no, no real security in Baghdad and/or in Anbar province, where I was, dealing with the most serious problem, sectarian violence. Sectarian violence is as strong and as solid and as serious a problem as it was before the surge started.”

Remembering Murtha's Iraq War Smears

[FrumForum] During the second IAEA inspection, Iraqi military authorities denied or restricted access to an IAEA inspection team at various sites designated for inspection by the Special Commission of the UN Security Council pursuant to Part C of UN Security Council Resolution 687. After protests, full access was granted on Wednesday, 26 June 1991, at which time activities which had been observed from a distance during the first visit had ceased and objects that had been seen had been removed.

John Murtha's Legacy on the Iraq War | War and Peace | Change.org

[Change.org's War and Peace Blog] Murtha was roundly praised by more conservative members of both parties as an authority on military affairs, commanding great respect from politicians and military leaders alike. His turn on the Iraq War not only was an about face in terms of his past votes, it also created space within the Democratic (and Republican, to some extent) parties for more fierce criticism of the way the Bush administration handled the Iraq War.

The Iraq War may or may not have been a crime - but was it in the ...

[Spectator Live] Actually Vulture, far from costing us billions the Iraq war was probably revenue neutral, and may even have contributed to the Treasury. Unlike the US, we were still an oil exporter at the time, so the extra $5-10 on oil prices due to the invasion allowed Gordon to recoup the $8bn or so marginal cost of the war, in extra North Sea taxes (which are tied to the oil price).
