Obama Stuck between Wars on Iraq, Afghanistan | Pakistan Daily
[Pakistan Daily: The Pakistan News Agency] the war on Iraq with only a four- line paragraph, and instead to escalate his war of words on Iran, as if the expansion of the war on Afghanistan into Pakistan was not enough over-depletion of an already exhausted U.S. human, financial and military resources, and as if a threat of a third war in the Middle East would serve in any way the U.S. vital interests in the region or contribute to U.S. elusive victory in either one of both wars. Downplaying the most pressing items on the U.S. agenda and leaping forward to the nuclear issue and Iran was only a thinly- veiled attempt to divert attention away from the fact that Obama was stuck between the worse and the worst in both countries.

[Cato @ Liberty] Tillman was a true citizen soldier. Not only did he leave private life to serve in the military after his nation was attacked, but he believed it was his responsibility to look beyond the self-serving rhetoric of politicians to judge the wisdom of the wars which they initiated. The rest of us should remember his skepticism when confronted with the willingness of politicians of both parties to continue sacrificing American lives in conflicts with little or no relevance to American security.

[The Washington Note] During your campaign for the Presidency, Americans around the country appreciated your skepticism of the rationales for the Iraq war. In 2002, you had warned that such an endeavor would yield "a U.S. occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, and with unintended consequences." You pointed out the dangers of fighting such a war "without a clear rationale and without strong international support." As scholars of international relations and U.S. foreign policy, many of us issued similar warnings before the war, unfortunately to little avail.

[Dandelion Salad] Any explanation of the wars we are fighting that overlooks how the locals there see things is every bit as incomplete as those Confederate-ocentric Civil War explanations that overlooked the Yankees. We don’t hardly ever make any efforts to factor in the people in the countries we now war in. Same thing happened in the Vietnam War. You can look high and low through Ricks’ book to find a single word from a single Iraqi in his or her own voice. We are so instinctively blind and self-centered that we quite completely overlook most all of the people’s there, the there where we squander billions of our treasure, thousands of American lives, and inflict monstrous tolls of death and destruction on the inhabitants therein that exceeds our own Civil War’s. Ricks and most all his colleagues report official Washington’s statements, be they press releases or behind-the-scenes gossipy backstabbing. Out in the field, they report American voices, whether press releases or some conversation or interview with some grunt. (Some officer, usually. Class differences between the reportorial corps and the NCO ranks make officer voices the predominant American voices from the field.) Ricks et al in the American news corps in their doing this are unwittingly being a perfect reflection of how most Americans, certainly how all of official America, sees the world. Not a very wise way to see things.

This was Sarah's first big test and she failed it miserably She should have known better because she had before expressed doubt that our leaders knew what the hell they were doing in Iraq.

[Hirby.com] Thousands of people have found jobs in the armament sector (defence, factories churning out weapons) and the armed service secotr (think Blackwater and other so called consultants). Furthermore, there has been an increase in the size of teh amred forces and these people sent to the front have to be paid.
