FREE MARKET FAIRY TALES: Some Iraq War food for thought
[FREE MARKET FAIRY TALES] For that they have many people to thank, including incurious journalists and pliant judges. But most of all, Tony Blair is in debt to his New Labour friends for their efforts to get him off the hook ” in recent days, Peter Mandelson and Gordon Brown.

Iraq, the unraveling (XIII): a faith-based war policy continues ...
[The Best Defense] I will not dwell on the absolute and resolute indifference to the costs of that commitment both by the last administration and by many of its harshest critics, other than to say that a choice needs to be made between Iraq and the other demands on the financial resources of the United States. It's clear which choice Bush administration officials like Peter Feaver and their current allies among former Bush administration critics like Tom Ricks would make if things were left to them, but they aren't going to be.

Hit & Run > Cap and Trade = Iraq War? - Reason Magazine
[Reason Magazine - Hit & Run] The Iraq war became a huge issue because, though it was exceedingly complex, you had the constant flow of numbers of dead Iraqis and dead American names on all the news programs. The issue had an effect that was viscerally understood...something that's absolutely not true for cap and trade schemes.

War on Terrorism: On the Ground: Forces Work Toward Goals in Iraq
[War on Terrorism] Mohamad Husam, deputy program manager for the division's operations, maintenance and sustainment program, presented a history of the division's experience with 133 primary health care centers constructed across Iraq, and how maintaining them could mean business opportunities for Iraqi women. To jump-start that process, the division has committed to performing maintenance on 17 of the completed primary health care centers, which could be good news for women-owned businesses.

[Bill's Blog] According to the memo, Bush told Blair that the U.S. had drawn up a plan “to fly U2 reconnaissance aircraft painted in UN colors over Iraq with fighter cover” hoping that Saddam would fire at the planes, to try and put the Iraqi leader in breach of UN resolutions.

The Scott Ross: United States And UK Created The Iraq War
[The Scott Ross] The memo, written on 31 January 2003, almost two months before the invasion and seen by the Observer, confirms that as the two men became increasingly aware UN inspectors would fail to find weapons of mass destruction (WMD) they had to contemplate alternative scenarios that might trigger a second resolution legitimising military action. Some possible alternative scenerios that were discussed that would legitimize the war ranged from provoking Iraq into firing at a U2 reconnaissance aircraft that was painted in UN colours to an assassination of Saddam Hussein.

Iraq Was A Just War « Clark County Conservative
[Clark County Conservative] As American and Coalition forces begin or continue their withdrawals from Iraq, Id like to point out that there is not a single drop of Iraqi oil being carried out by them. All the cries of “No Blood For Oil,” accusing President Bush of “stealing their oil” were erroneous and what oil we do receive from the Iraqis in the future will be obtained legally and by payment.

Iraq: Now it's the Democrats War
[Green Party Watch] Once Again the Democrats proved they are no different than the GOP by passing the War Funding Act yesterday. Green Party members ought to be proud of the fact that we are the only party calling for an end to the invasion of Iraq.

BBC - Nick Robinson's Newslog: Iraq war inquiry - lessons to be learnt
[Whatanews4u.Sports] I guess it's quite correct to say, as Mr Robinson reports that Whitehall sources are doing, above, that no enquiry is going to satisfy everybody, no matter how open it is nor what it concludes. Nonetheless, I think the majority of people WOULD be satisfied with an enquiry that actually addresses the issue of why Tony Blair (and others) took a bunch of largely inconclusive and sometimes entirely theoretical/hypothetical reports about Saddam's possible activities, and described them using words like "compelling" and "incontravertible" without being clear about what it was he was basing his conclusions on.

Cranmer: Gordon Brown's 'inquiry' into the Iraq war.
[Cranmer] I suspect most people have now lost interest in Iraq, save that there is a festering belief that Blair lied to the people (and to the Commons) and they want him to be exposed. Unless the inquiry shows that to be true it will be considered a whitewash and just another cynical ploy by Brown to deflect his critics'

Grant Lawrence--Bodhi Thunder: Funny Stephen Colbert Serious about ...
[Grant Lawrence--Bodhi Thunder] Colbert's satire clearly, and correctly, skewers the media for losing focus, despite the presence of 130,000 troops in the still-dangerous nation. Statistics from the Tyndall Report tracking service show that all three network evening news programs broadcast a total of just 99 minutes of news on Iraq in the first five months of this year.
