propagandizing the public

The Moon's Favorshttp://themoonsfavors.blogspot.com/2008/07/propagandizing-public.html [The Moon's Favors] On January 16, 1989 President Reagan signed an executive order directing the National Archivist to submit to the incumbent president for "review" all proposals for opening the president's advisory communications. Accordingly, when the 12-year moratorium on the Reagan advisory documents expired in January 2001, Archivist John Carlin sent a proposal to open 37,000 pages of documents to President Bush and also to former presidents Reagan, Bush (senior), and Clinton*.

Iraq War Updates

Do The Right Thinghttp://dotherightthing-cyberpastor.blogspot.com/2008/07/iraq-war-updates.html [Do The Right Thing] I have walked through markets in Baghdad escorted by U.S. soldiers, visited the outposts where they live with their Iraqi army partners, talked with school children playing soccer in the street, seen newly renovated housing in war-torn neighborhoods, and eaten in the homes of local and tribal leaders who have helped our soldiers fight Al Qaeda in Iraq.

Iraq War Spending Approaches Vietnam War Spending, But The ...

Say Anythinghttp://sayanythingblog.com/entry/iraq_war_spending_approaches_vietnam_war_spending_but_the_comparison_is_a_b/ [Say Anything] For example, the report’s figures for the Vietnam War are Defense Department estimates of the incremental costs of military operations ”” the costs of war activities more than the normal, day-to-day costs of a standing military force. The costs for post 9/11 military operations are estimated from Congress-appropriated amounts and Defense Department reports.

Thursday Links: Frontline, Bush’s War, Voodoo Iraq and Black Hawk Down

20 Times Around the Blockhttp://ochuk.wordpress.com/2008/07/24/thursday-links-frontline-bushs-war-voodoo-iraq-and-black-hawk-down/ [20 Times Around the Block] The policy utterly failed as the insurgency was free to make its attacks on unsecured cities, particularly Baghdad, where the Iraqi forces were woefully ill-equipped to handle it. Through means of terror Al Qaeda was able to pit Sunni against Shia, almost obliterating any hope of a unified nation.

Crossfire War - Iraq Army Prepares for Major Action Near Iran ...

NewsBlaze.com Current News - Opinionshttp://newsblaze.com/story/20080723115432payn.nb/topstory.html [NewsBlaze.com Current News - Opinions] If not, we will not do anything." Tehran definitely wants the Iraq Army to call on help which will make it easier for units armed by Iran to not only receive a more consistent supply of weapons but it may force the Pentagon to actually order attacks on bases inside Iran supplying the Shia/al-Qaeda units. That would enable Iran to say they are responding to U.S. aggression.

Rockefeller Report: The Contents

Enlightened Laypersonhttp://enlightenedlayperson.blogspot.com/2008/07/rockefeller-report-contents.html [Enlightened Layperson] Committee conclusions: Statements about missiles were "generally substantiated by the intelligence." Statements about UAV's being used for chemical or biological attack were "generally substantiated by the intelligence but did not convey the substantial disagreements or evolving views that existed in the intelligence community." Statements that the Iraqi government was considering using UAV's to attack the US were "substantiated by intelligence judgments at the time, but these judgments were revised a few months later."

Cash from chaos from Baghdad to Basingstoke

Tribunehttp://www.tribunemagazine.co.uk/2008/07/22/cash-from-chaos-from-baghdad-to-basingstoke/ [Tribune] Iraq’s occupiers wanted a new currency to get Saddam’s face off the country’s banknotes and ensure that post-war Iraq wasn’t destabilised either by Baathists using stockpiles of Saddam dinars or criminals forging notes. As the Foreign Office noted before the war, Iraq’s Central Bank “prints on low-quality wood pulp paper (which reflects under UV light), with a watermark that can be forged by professionals with access to the same paper supply as the bank”.

Obama outlines policy of endless war by Bill Van Auken

Dandelion Saladhttp://dandelionsalad.wordpress.com/2008/07/19/obama-outlines-policy-of-endless-war-by-bill-van-auken/ [Dandelion Salad] Obama reiterated his campaign pledge to bring US “combat brigades” out of Iraq within 16 months of his inauguration. After this “redeployment,” however, a “residual force” would remain in Iraq carrying out counter-insurgency operations, protecting US facilities and training and supporting Iraqi puppet forces””tasks that would undoubtedly keep tens of thousands of American troops occupying the country indefinitely.

Is the Iraq War (Kinda) Over?

Teen Pundithttp://teenpundit.wordpress.com/2008/07/17/is-the-iraq-war-kinda-over/ [Teen Pundit] Yet, the will of the Iraqi people has changed, and the Iraqi military has dramatically improved, so those spectacular attacks are diminishing along with the regular violence. Now it’s time to rebuild the country, and create a pluralistic, stable and peaceful Iraq.

Obama's Iraq Speech: I Will "End The War In Iraq Responsibly"

TPM Election Centralhttp://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/07/obamas_iraq_speech_i_will_end.php [TPM Election Central] As I said yesterday, it will be a brilliant speech and I agree totally with his five-point strategy. It will make America safer, as the war in Iraq has not only diminished our global standing but also lost us allies along the way.We have an to engage responsibly towards global exigencies in a way that emphasises our key International obligation as a permanet member of the Un security council.Obama recognises that the global security climate has changed and that military force on its own does not mean success in combating global threats.Go Obama!

Looking Ahead to Post-War Iraq

Blogs For Victoryhttp://blogsforvictory.com/2008/07/14/looking-ahead-to-post-war-iraq/ [Blogs For Victory] should either Iran or Turkey seek to upset the post-war Iraqi settlement and, of course, to secure the military purpose of going into Iraq at all - the ability to project American power into the heart of the middle east. I would still keep our primary miltiary focus on the Persian Gulf - with basing in Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates being far more important given (a) the relative weakness of these States and thus their dependence on a de-facto US protectorate against Iran and (b) our ability to keep major forces outside of the main Arab lands.

Report on the June 28-29 National Assembly conference in Cleveland

Northland Anti-War Coalitionhttp://northlandantiwar.blogspot.com/2008/07/report-on-june-28-29-national-assembly.html [Northland Anti-War Coalition] Ensured that it was action oriented by urging support for demonstrations at the Republican and Democratic Party conventions (September 1-4, 2008 and August 25-28, 2008 respectively), other actions preceding the elections -- especially those called for October 11 -- and proposing December 9-14 as dates for local actions across the country demanding the immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. These December actions provide the best potential for uniting the entire movement in the months ahead.

Why We Went to War in Iraq

Paralipomenahttp://jonjayray.baywords.com/2008/07/05/why-we-went-to-war-in-iraq/ [Paralipomena] Bush decided it was unacceptable to wait while Saddam advanced his biological weapons program or possibly developed a nuclear weapon. The CIA was mistaken, we all now know, in its assessment that we would find chemical and biological weapons stockpiles in Iraq.

Why we went to war in Iraq - WSJ

OrangePower.Comhttp://www.orangepower.com/showthread.php?t=54221 [OrangePower.Com] Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz asked if the U.S. might create an autonomous area in southern Iraq similar to the autonomous Kurdish region in the north, with the goal of making Saddam little more than the "mayor of Baghdad." U.S. officials also discussed whether a popular uprising in Iraq should be encouraged, and how we could best work with free Iraqi groups that opposed the Saddam regime.
