Told You So
[Fresh Politics - Politics from the Student Perspective] President Bush has given some good speeches lately, including his talk June 29 at Fort Bragg, N.C., in which he stressed some of the reasons for going into Iraq, and his address this past Monday at the FBI Academy at Quantico, Va., in which he talked about the role of intelligence in defeating terrorists and stressed that “the heart of our strategy is this: Free societies are peaceful societies.”

Iraq: American Occupation...Digging Deeper to Get Out of the Hole
[www.edstrong.blog-city.com] Marqusee [author of article] seems to think that since the London terrorists (-if you live in Reutersville, read: freedom fighters-) have 'reasons' to commit indiscriminate acts of barbarity against innocent British citizens (i.e."this attack is a consequence of our role in dishing out brutality in Afghanistan, Iraq and Palestine") then it is somehow Tony Blair's fault.

London Bombings: Muslims Will No Longer Be Intimidated by the West
[edstrong.blog-city.com] Unless the American and British people want a 30-year or a 100-year war with domestic police states for "security" reasons and a draft that will bleed their populations dry, this war needs to be wound up quickly with due apologies and reparations.

Rhetoric vs. Reality in London
[Center for Media and Democracy - Publishers of PR Watch] Following the attacks, Galloway issued a statement in which he expressed condolences to the victims before pointing out that he had predicted previously "that the attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq would increase the threat of terrorist attack in Britain." Galloway called on his own government "to remove people in this country from harms way, as the Spanish government acted to remove its people from harm, by ending the occupation of Iraq and by turning its full attention to the development of a real solution to the wider conflicts in the Middle East."

The price of occupation
[Keld Bachs Press Cuttings] Just because these three wars are reported sporadically and mean little to the everyday lives of most Europeans does not mean the anger and bitterness they arouse in the Muslim world and its diaspora is insignificant. As long as western politicians wage their wars and their colleagues in the Muslim world watch in silence, young people will be attracted to the groups who carry out random acts of revenge.

Going to Hell in a Handbasket
[EditorMom] It is maddening, frightening, shocking, and abysmally stupid what Bush is doing to America and to the world”and being allowed to do by Americans. He is heading down Hitler's path in the name of his twisted version of religion, and not enough people will allow themselves to see it.

Israel not ”warned of attacks
[Altermedia UK] Israel was not warned about possible terror attacks in London before at least six blasts ripped through the city, Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom has said. A Foreign Ministry official had said earlier that British police warned the Israeli Embassy in London of possible terror attacks minutes before the first explosion.

Wolfowitz: The Exit Interviews
[ Seeker Blog] I would say—and maybe it’s more than just defending myself—we fought very hard before the war to get free Iraqi forces trained in order to have reliable security forces after the war was over. Others believed that wasn’t important, because after the war the regime would be gone and we wouldn’t need security forces.

The American Left, thugs, rogue governments and terrorists: que simpatico!
[rand holman's THE DAILY POLEMIC] This Middle East Hitler, responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, plus the tally from his al Qaeda terror connections and financial underwriting of suicide bomber families whose loved ones took out some innocent Israelis, isn't it rather telling that Left-leaning American lawyers continue to jump at the chance to defend Saddam .or other known terrorists?

Cola wars as Coke moves on Baghdad
[Keld Bachs Press Cuttings] Coke withdrew from Iraq in 1968 when the Arab League declared a boycott because of business ties to Israel, leaving Pepsi to dominate the Middle East market for soft drinks. The boycott ended in 1991, but sanctions and wars kept Coke out of Iraq.

7/7: London Pays the Price for Blair's War on Iraq
[edstrong.blog-city.com] The real solution lies in immediately ending the occupation of Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine. Wartime Rhetoric
[(Pro)Claiming Age] It is easy to think I must have misunderstood the news coverage somewhere along the line, to believe myself confused in thinking the war in Iraq was never supposed to have lasted this long. Can we feel the quagmire developing in Iraq now threatening to repeat the political, economic, and moral horrors of Viet Nam?

Fouad Ajami: The Autumn of the Autocrats
[ Seeker Blog] This essay for Foreign Affairs, May/June 2005, is no exception. The legacy media continues to assert that the dramatic changes afoot in Lebanon and Syria have nothing to do with the hated Bush Doctrine, and certainly nothing to do with the liberation of Iraq.

Another viewpoint
[The Phnom Penh] a BBC series called The Power of Nightmares, which seems to argue that the description of al-Qaeda as a global terrorist network which poses an existential threat to the US and Europe is a fantasy promulgated so that the populace will, from fear, accept whatever their political masters do. Since Cambodia Cable TV has dropped BBC, I have not been able to watch it for myself.
